Why do meteorological departments name typhoons? V

According to experts, the Pacific Northwest is the region with the most frequent typhoon (tropical storm) activities in the world, with as many as six or seven landings in China every year. Over the years, countries and regions concerned have different names for tropical storms here, and the same typhoon often has several names. According to the region and time of occurrence, China has carried out four-code numbering, with the first two digits as the year and the last two digits as the sequence number. The typhoon centers of the Asia-Pacific Regional Professional Meteorological Observatory under the World Meteorological Organization in Tokyo, Japan, are numbered in the order of east longitude 180 degrees and north of the equator. The Joint typhoon warning center, the Guam Navy of the United States, is named after the British and American countries, and Guam is also commonly used in international media reports. Some countries or regions have their own names for typhoons that affect this area. In order to avoid the confusion of names, relevant countries and regions held a special meeting and decided that all typhoons (tropical storms) active in the northwest Pacific should use a set of new names recognized by Asia-Pacific 14 countries (regions) from last year, so as to facilitate people of all countries to prevent Taiwan and strengthen international and regional cooperation.

Among the 140 typhoon names proposed by members of/kloc-0, except for 10 in Hong Kong and Macao, the 10 names proposed by Chinese mainland are: Longwang, (Sun) Wukong, Yutu, Haiyan, Fengshen, Poseidon, Rhododendron, Dian Mu, Hippocampus and Haitang. Experts said that the No.5 typhoon rammasun was named after Thailand, meaning "Raytheon"; Typhoon Chatan No.6 was named by Americans, meaning "rain"; Tropical Storm No.8, which landed in Taiwan Province Province today, is the name of a Cambodian flower. It is reported that tropical storms will become typhoons when strengthened.

Experts say that as early as the18th century, Australian meteorologists had a whim and began to name typhoons after women as an honor or memorial to their neglected girlfriends, beloved wives or politicians. This practice quickly became popular in Europe and America. 1949, the first hurricane in the Atlantic was named "Harry", because when the hurricane hit Florida, US President Harris Truman was there to inspect; Soon, another even crazier hurricane swept through Florida, and people called her "Beth", the president's wife. In a typhoon season, two typhoons jumped out of the Gulf of Mexico at the same time, named Alice and Barbara respectively. The little sisters attracted an unprecedented flood. As a result, the movement against naming typhoons after women surged, and letters and voices almost drowned newspapers and meteorological bureaus. Nevertheless, stubborn meteorologists still insist on this practice, which was used in many countries until the end of 1970s. /kloc-hurricane Cecil in 0/979 was the first typhoon named after a man in American history.

Interestingly, the names of typhoons in the western Pacific currently used still have few meanings of disaster, but most of them have elegant and peaceful meanings, such as jasmine, rose, pearl, lotus and colorful clouds. This seems to be out of harmony with the typhoon disaster. Experts believe that typhoons will not only bring storms, but also benefit mankind sometimes. In hot summer, typhoons can relieve the heat, so it's no harm to take a gentle name. However, the Typhoon Committee has other regulations. If the typhoon really committed a heinous crime, the relevant members can apply for a name change, thus nailing this demon to the shame frame of disaster history forever.
