The great significance of meridian project

The completion of the Meridian Project will enable China to quickly step into the ranks of advanced countries with important international influence in ground-based monitoring of space environment and play a leading (or central) role in Asia for decades. 40% of the failures of China satellites are related to the space environment. If the failure rate drops by 65,438+00%, the benefits will be enormous. The long-term cumulative benefits to communication, navigation, resources, meteorology, earthquake, disaster reduction, disaster prevention, GPS application, electricity, ecology, human health and national security are even more difficult to calculate.

After the meridian project is completed, it is of great scientific significance and application value for giving full play to China's regional advantages, obtaining low ionosphere and thermosphere environmental data that balloons and satellites can't detect, and understanding and forecasting space weather changes over China.

Following the principle of "building, running and producing", the Meridian Project has provided space environment forecast, early warning and on-site reports for major national space launch missions such as Shenzhou-8, Shenzhou-9 and Tiangong-1. The completion of the meridian project will greatly improve China's space weather forecasting ability and service level, strongly support China's space science to achieve major original achievements, and make important contributions to improving China's space activity ability and ensuring the safety of space activities.

On the basis of the Meridian Project, China has also promoted a major international scientific and technological cooperation-the Meridian Ring Plan for International Space Weather. The plan will extend China's meridian chain to the Russian north and to Australia south, and bring the ground observation stations around 60 degrees west longitude into network observation, forming the only ground-based space environment meridian circle that can surround the earth. The plan has been responded by most countries in the circle.
