What is a typhoon like?

The essence of typhoon is tropical cyclone, which is called typhoon generated in the western Pacific. The scale of the typhoon is still relatively large, and the radius can reach 100-300 km. Its true face can only be seen on satellite cloud images. The center of the typhoon is the typhoon eye, which is shown as a transparent hole with a diameter of tens of kilometers on the satellite cloud image. Downflow prevails in the typhoon eye area, and the weather is sunny and windy. Then it reaches the typhoon vortex area, where the wind and rain are the strongest. Followed by the typhoon outer ring, also known as windy area, the precipitation is mainly moderate to heavy rain, which is relatively weak, but the wind power increases rapidly to the inner ring, which can generally reach more than 6 levels.

There are certain conditions for the formation of typhoons. First of all, it needs a vast ocean surface and high temperature water. When the water temperature is high, the lower air in the ocean is heated violently, which is easy to form convection. The vast ocean surface forms a large range of convection, which provides enough water vapor for typhoons. In summer, the western Pacific meets such conditions, so typhoons occur frequently. Secondly, appropriate geostrophic parameters are needed to make the airflow converge continuously. According to calculation, the geostrophic parameters about 5 latitudes from the equator are the most favorable for the formation of typhoons. Thirdly, the vertical shear of airflow is small, which is beneficial to the stability of typhoon cyclone, and the western Pacific just meets this condition. In addition, a certain flow field is needed.
