What lizard hibernates?

Lizard is a reptile. Some lizards hibernate in winter to reduce energy consumption and survive in cold winter. The following are several common hibernating lizards.

1, brown lizard

Brown lizards are lizards that live in North America. They can hibernate for several months in winter. During hibernation, their metabolism slows down, their energy consumption decreases, and their body temperature will be much lower than that during normal activities. Hibernation of brown lizards usually occurs in underground caves or other sheltered and warm places.

Before entering hibernation, brown lizards store a lot of fat to meet the energy needs in winter. When the weather starts to get cold, they will look for holes of the right size and fill them, creating a stable environment below freezing point to enter hibernation.

2. Arctic lizard

Arctic lizards are lizards that live in the polar regions of the Arctic. They need to face extreme cold. In order to adapt to this extreme environment, they can enter a hibernation period of several months. During hibernation, arctic lizards will lower their body temperature to near freezing point to reduce energy consumption.

Before hibernation, Arctic lizards dig holes in shallow caves and tunnels in them, so that they can cross the ice at the temperature of lizards' bodies. When the weather starts to get cold, they will enter underground dwellings and store fat in their bodies. At the end of winter, they will return to the surface and start activities.

3. Australian lizard meadow dragon

Lizard Australian meadow dragon is a lizard living in Australia, which can enter a period of obvious metabolic decline in winter and hibernate. Australian meadow dragon will reduce energy consumption during hibernation, and its body temperature will be much lower than that during normal activities.

Australian meadow dragons store a lot of fat before going into hibernation. When the weather starts to get cold, they will choose a sheltered place, such as a crack in the rock, and go into hibernation. Their hibernation usually lasts for several months until the temperature starts to rise in spring.
