Liuku Town is located in the seat of Nujiang Prefecture, spanning the eastern foothills of Gaoligong Mountain to the western foothills of Biluo Snow Mountain. It is a typical mountainous town. The Nushan Mountains, Yunling Mountains, and Nujiang River run through the town from north to south. The entire town is located on both sides of the Nujiang River.

The territory is affected by the complex landforms, forming a three-dimensional climate with four seasons in one mountain and different days in ten miles. Dryness and wetness are distinct, rain and heat occur in the same season, dry and cool occur in the same season, and drought in winter and spring is a prominent feature. The annual average temperature is 19°C and the average annual rainfall is 1115 mm. The average annual sunshine is 2020 hours. The main disastrous weather conditions include drought, flood and low temperature.

Liuku Town is rich in natural resources. There are 7 tributaries of the Nu River and small rivers. The water energy reserves are very rich and need to be developed and utilized. There are various mineral deposits such as tin and tungsten. There are 31,016 acres of cultivated land, including 3,990 acres of paddy fields and 27,026 acres of dry land; there are 20,466 acres of forest land, with a forest coverage rate of 56%, a standing stock of nearly one million cubic meters, and a wide variety of animals and plants.
