Suqian is a third-tier city.

Suqian City, referred to as Su, was formerly known as Xiaxiang, Suyu, Zhongwu, Siwu, Xiapi, Congde, etc. It is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. It is located on the northern flank of the Yangtze River Delta and in the north of Jiangsu Province. It is a regional comprehensive transportation hub in the northern wing of the Yangtze River Delta. It is located in the central areas of Xuzhou City, Lianyungang City, and Huai'an. It is an important gateway city radiating from the coastal areas of Jiangsu Province to the central and western regions.
