Cultivation techniques of open-air tomato

Sowing date should be determined according to the planting season, climatic conditions, cultivation methods, seedling facilities and other factors. For example, in spring open cultivation, Beijing usually sows seedlings from mid-February to early March.

Planting in the open field in autumn, such as Shanghai and Nanjing in the south of the Yangtze River, has the best effect from late July to early August; However, the yield of sowing in early July in eastern Sichuan is higher.

In some areas with serious tomato diseases, the sowing date can be appropriately delayed by 1-2 months, and then higher yield can be obtained through measures such as close planting, early coring and increasing fertilizer and water.

Growth habit

Tomato is a warm vegetable. Under normal circumstances, the optimum temperature for assimilation is 20-25℃, and the optimum soil temperature for root growth is 20-22℃. Like light, it is also a short-day plant. Tomato likes water, and the soil humidity is 60-80%, and the air humidity is 45-50%.

Tomatoes have low requirements on soil conditions and grow well in fertile loam with deep soil layer, good drainage and rich organic matter. The optimum pH value of soil is pH6-7.

Tomatoes can tolerate drought, but not waterlogging, and the requirements for soil are not very strict. To obtain high yield, we must choose soil with deep soil layer, loose and fertile soil and strong water and fertility conservation.
