Why do some farmers raise turtles well but have no money to earn?

Farmers often report that the turtles they raise every year are very good, but they have no money to earn. The author analyzes the following reasons:

(1) turtle products are sold seasonally. Soft-shelled turtle, for example, is usually used for food supplement in southern winter. Therefore, turtles in winter are generally better to sell, and even if they can't be sold, they are easy to preserve because of the cold weather. In some places, soft-shelled turtles are kept until summer or late spring. At this time, not only the sales volume is small, but also the price is the lowest. There are also some local customs and habits that are related to the sales volume of the market. For example, there is a traditional custom in Hangzhou that "students test soft-shelled turtles", so the price of soft-shelled turtles is better when it comes to the examination season. Therefore, no matter how high the aquaculture output is, it will not have ideal economic benefits without understanding the market demand. (2) The product quality is low. In the early stage of turtle breeding, due to the low quality and high price in the market, quality is generally not paid much attention to. With the increase of aquaculture production and consumers' increasing attention to product quality requirements, generally, low-quality turtles can't sell at high prices. For example, soft-shelled turtles with strong earthy smell, fat body and short breeding time are difficult to sell at a good price in the market. Therefore, the same aquaculture output, poor quality is not only inefficient, and some even lose money. (3) Something without a brand must have a brand. A good brand not only has high price, high sales volume, but also high natural economic benefits. For example, Mingfeng brand turtle in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province and Ye Hao brand turtle in Ningbo Tiandi have basically formed an independent price system. No matter how turbulent the market is, their brand prices are in a high and stable sales environment, and the economic benefits are naturally high. Therefore, brand is the embodiment of soft power and hard value of turtle breeding enterprises. (4) The breeding cost is high. With the same output, the breeding cost of some farmers will be higher, and naturally their economic benefits will be lower. Therefore, how to manage the cost of turtle breeding enterprises is the key to improve the economic benefits of turtle breeding. Many farmers don't know the cost per kilogram of their turtles, so they follow their feelings until they sell them. This kind of mindless farming can't achieve high efficiency.
