About Namtso in Tibet

Namtso is located between Damxung County and Nagqu Bangor County in Lhasa, about 200 kilometers northwest of Lhasa. It is the highest saltwater lake in the world, with an altitude of 4718m, 70km long from east to west, and 30km wide from north to south. With an area of ??1920km2, it is the largest lake in Tibet and a holy place in the eyes of pilgrims. "Namtso" means celestial lake, spiritual lake or sacred lake. The five islands in the lake stand out among the vast expanse of blue waves. Buddhists say that they are the incarnations of the five Buddhas. The best time to travel

To travel to Namtso, you must rush into the rainy season from June to September every year. From October to November, Namtso will be inaccessible due to heavy snowfall. The weather from November to May is cold and dry, making it unsuitable to enter the Tibetan Plateau.
