Later, Zhu Yuanzhang joined the rebel army and soon took the position of leader. However, Zhu Yuanzhang was born as a commoner, did not know how to manage the army, was incapable of running the army, and developed very slowly. On the day of frost again, Zhu Yuanzhang had a dream at night. In the dream, an old man stood under a persimmon tree and said to Zhu Yuanzhang with a smile: "Persimmons save lives, and scholars govern the country!"

It wasn't until he captured Dingyuan that he met Li Shanchang, a famous scholar in Dingyuan City, and suddenly remembered that dream, so he reused this person. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Zhu Yuanzhang rewarded meritorious officials and wanted to make Li Shanchang a Duke, but he was afraid that other generals would not accept it, so he hatched a plan to test it out. So he took his ministers to the old persimmon tree that had saved him back then, and told the ministers about his experience. Finally, when he got to the emotional point, he took off his cloak, put it on the old persimmon tree, and said: "Persimmons save lives, scholars govern the country, and scholars should be granted the title of Lingshuang Marquis." After hearing this, all the ministers were moved and expressed their gratitude for the title. Hou had no objections to the matter.

The next day, Zhu Yuanzhang issued an imperial edict, conferring Li Shanchang, Xu Da, Chang Mao, Li Wenzhong, Feng Sheng, and Deng Yu as dukes, with Li Shanchang ranking first. As a result, the saying "Persimmons save lives" gradually spread, and people would eat persimmons during the frost to survive this cold season.
