Zhou Yi Zhi Bagua theory, images, numbers, and the first 64 hexagrams
As discussed in the previous chapter, Fuxi observed the celestial phenomena and established the sun, taiyin, shaoyang, shaoyin, as well as the four seasons and directions. The "Book of Changes·Xici" said: "Yi has Tai Chi, which is the birthplace of Tai Chi." Two Yi, two Yi give rise to Four Symbols, and Four Symbols give rise to Bagua.” Let’s talk about how to give birth to Bagua from Four Symbols.
There are many theories about yin and yang. We only need to know that "one painting opens the world". One painting separates heaven and earth, Qian and Kun. Therefore, Qian is the sun, so it is represented by the three Yang Yao. Kun is Taiyin, represented by three yang-yang lines, which are yin lines. (Because in the Fuxi period, writing had not yet appeared, and symbols were used to express the observed natural phenomena. Vocabulary concepts such as yin and yang, including Yao, were gradually formed later in life, and will not be discussed in detail here. Just understand it.) p>
Fuxi discovered that winter is in the north and Taiyin is the coldest in the year, so he used the three yin to represent it, named Kun, and Kun is the earth;
Walking clockwise from north to south, first Go to the northeast. Because the northeast is closest to the north (that is, closest to the lunar calendar), there is definitely more yin energy than yang energy. Therefore, two yin energies press one yang energy, which is called earthquake, and earthquake is thunder (you can imagine thunderstorms, which is also good) ; Li, Li is fire, gradually moving from cold to warm. The contrast between warmth and cold is sharp and gives a feeling of fiery heat. Although it is not hotter than Sanyang;
Then it gets closer to Sanyang and reaches the southeast. At this time, it is the turn of spring and summer, but spring is still dominant. The old saying goes: "The cold in spring is steep", so the cold air of spring (Yin ) are still many, represented by one yin and two yang, named Dui, which is ze. The melted earth, rivers and lakes are all active;
The south is summer and the sun (the hottest, Therefore, the three yangs are used as representatives and are called Qian, Qian is the sky, and the world is full of vitality);
From then on, going from south to north, the process of yang disappearing and yin growing, first goes to the southwest, That is, summer changes to autumn. At this time, the autumn wind sweeps the fallen leaves, so it is called Xun. , named Kan, Kan refers to water (for easy remembering, you can know that the west of China is the source of the three rivers and the source of water. When autumn is high and the air is crisp, it is easy to dry out, so it is necessary to drink more soup and water to moisten yourself), and Kan refers to the two yins. The sun is shining, and the autumn cold is coming at this time, and it gets cold;
Then comes the northwest, and the northwest is called Genweishan (this is also easy to remember, the northwest of China is all plateau, of course from From the perspective of that time, Fuxi may not have known the whole territory of the country, but I will tell you this now for everyone’s sake). At this time, because it was very close to the north, there was more yin and less yang, so one yang resisted two yin. Then we reach the north again, and the cycle starts over again. It has been made clear in the previous section that this kind of south-east, north-west is based on the handle of the Big Dipper pointing in different directions in different seasons, combined with cold and warm, etc. It can be comprehensively understood in conjunction with the previous article.
At this time, Fuxi had not stopped pursuing the ultimate mystery. He found that there would be different weather in different areas even at the same time, so he thought about the concept of space and combined it with the concept of space. In his opinion, only the combination of space and time can fully explain everything in the world. As a result, the Bagua and Bagua were superimposed to produce richer meanings, and the 64 hexagrams were developed.
The superposition changes of the 64 hexagrams also change based on changes in natural phenomena. The only constant is change, which can be very clear in the changes of Bagua.
Mr. Nan Huanjin mentioned in the book "Taoism, Tantra and Eastern Mysticism": "The Book of Changes" has three basic points:
1. Changes: "The Book of Changes" The things in the universe explained are bound to change, that is to say, nothing in the world remains unchanged. But this change is a gradual change rather than a sudden change. "Yi" denies sudden changes, because all sudden changes have actually been internal changes for a long time.
2. Difficulty: Amidst all the inevitable changes, there is an absolutely unchanging ontology. This is the metaphysical truth. In Western religions, it is called God, Buddhism calls it Buddha, and Lao Tzu has no It is called Tao by name, and some people call it "a mass of pitch black". Regardless of its name, it represents an unchanging essence.
3. Simplicity: "Yi" is an induction method, which summarizes the phenomena and human affairs in the universe into extremely simple and inevitable principles, which is called simplicity.
It is also said: "The "Book of Changes" has three connotations: principles, images, and numbers." The number of Fuxi Bagua must be obtained from the river map.
The True River Map is the transition between the Ancient River Map and the Luoshu. The number of Bagua is also found in the True River Map, which corresponds to the following figure. In the River Map:
North 1+ South 4 = Middle 5 East 3 + West 2 = Middle 5
North 1+South 9 = Middle 10 East 8+West 2 = Middle 10
The same goes for other groups.
Furthermore, pick any number from each group and add it to the middle number to get the number of this group.
North 1+Central 5=North 6
North 1+Central 10=North 11
North 6+Central 5=North 11
< p> North 6 + Middle 10 = North 16Since 10 is also the largest number, so far, the other groups are the same.
The harmony and beauty of the numbers of yin and yang can be seen in the ratio between east, south, west and north and the river diagram.
This point can also be explained by the calculation in the figure above.
Then add Yin Yao and Yang Yao to each group to get the complete innate Bagua.
/p>
Then the pictures and numbers of the 64 hexagrams can be obtained. They are formed by combining the two hexagrams. This combination also has its natural reasons. I will elaborate on it later. I just sigh that the mystery of Zhouyi is really mysterious. Xuan is like doing a mathematical problem that is interlocking. You can solve it one link at a time, come back again, and solve it again. This is endless fun. The picture below is a combination of eight, eight and sixty-four hexagrams, with a circle on the outside and a square on the inside, which indicates that the sky is round and the place is round, encompassing everything.
(Note) The number 11 in the picture is not the so-called 11th hexagram, but the combination of Qian and Qian into the Qian hexagram.
