Ren Guoyu, chief expert of the National Climate Center and adjunct professor of China Geo University (Wuhan), told China News Service that the intensity and frequency of dust weather this year are higher than those in previous years, mainly because the precipitation in the dust source areas in Mongolia and northwest China is unusually low in late winter and early spring, which is 100% lower than that in the same period of normal years. Due to less precipitation and high temperature in spring, the climate is unusually dry.

Under this background, coupled with the strong wind brought by the extratropical cyclone activity in spring, it is easy to blow up the dry soil or dust produced by drought, enter the northwest airflow and bring it to North China and other places.
