Why do cicadas sing in summer?

In hot summer, we often hear cicadas hiding in trees make loud calls, which sounds like they are singing happily. The hotter the weather, the happier the cicada sings and the longer it takes. What a tireless singer! However, there are only "male singers" in the cicada family. The male cicada attracts the female cicada by singing loudly, but the female cicada is "dumb" and does not use the pronunciation device.

Cicada, also known as cicada, is a large plant-sucking insect. They have a hollow needle-like straw, which can pierce trees to suck sap. There are different kinds of cicadas. They are similar in shape but different in color. Cicada has three less sensitive eye spots between its eyes and a simple supporting tubule on its wings. These are the primitive characteristics of ancient insect populations.

Cicada has two pairs of membranous wings with hard veins. When you rest, your wings always cover your back. Cicada rarely flies freely, and only flies from tree to tree when it is foraging or disturbed. Interestingly, cicadas can suck juice through straws and sing with musical instruments at the same time. Eating and singing do not interfere with each other. The chirping of cicadas can predict the weather. If the cicada chirps loudly in the treetops early, it will tell people that it is very hot today.

Cicada sang in the sun for only a short month and died, so she was a "short-lived" singer. However, their larvae are the "longevity toad stars" in the insect world! Cicada larvae usually live underground for six years, sucking the sap from the roots for a living. After many metamorphosis, they emerged from the soil, climbed into trees to shed their skins and became singing adults.

When cicadas molt, it's like performing gymnastics. I saw its body soaring in the air, only a little stuck to the old skin, and then turned over, with its head down and its wings stretched out hard. Finally, turn your body over, hook the empty skin with your front paws and pull your body out of the shell. This "gymnastics" performance will last for about half an hour!
