Hubei is the abbreviation of Hubei, and Wuhan is located in the central and eastern part of Hubei, as shown in the following figure.

Wuhan, referred to as Jiangcheng for short, is the capital of Hubei Province, a sub-provincial city and a national regional central city (Central China). Located in the east of Jianghan Plain, Wuhan is an important industrial base, science and education base and comprehensive transportation hub in China. By 20 15, Wuhan will have 13 municipal districts and 3 national development zones with a total area of 8594 square kilometers and a permanent population of 10607700.

Because of its special geographical location, Wuhan has become an important integrated transportation hub of China, and is known as the thoroughfare of nine provinces. The high-speed rail network connects most parts of China, and it is an important large-scale transit station and an important inland port of China railway system. The Yangtze River, the third largest river in the world, and its largest tributary, Hanshui River, meet in Wuhan, creating the regional characteristics of Wuhan separated by two rivers and three towns. Rivers crisscross the city, and lakes and harbors are intertwined. The whole water area is 22 17.6 square kilometers, accounting for a quarter of the city's total area, which constitutes the ecological environment of Wuhan's riverside and lakeside waters, so Wuhan has been called Jiangcheng since ancient times.
