The remains of Beiyang Navy officers were found near the Zhiyuan ship: they have been incomplete for hundreds of years.
As the sunken ship in Dandong Port, Liaoning was confirmed to be the Zhiyuan ship, more cultural relics were discovered. Due to cooler weather and complicated sea conditions in the north, this year's archaeological survey of the Zhiyuan ship will also end in mid-October.

The monument is for future generations to pay homage to. According to historical records, during the Sino-Japanese War in the Yellow Sea, all but 7 of the 252 officers and soldiers on board the Zhiyuan were martyred.
