Growth process of maize

The growth process of maize: seedling stage, ear stage, flower and grain stage.

1, seedling stage. From seed emergence to jointing stage is the vegetative growth stage of maize, which takes root, grows leaves and differentiates stems. The central task of field management in this period is to ensure that all seedlings are sown at one time, the seedlings are neat and uniform, promote the growth of roots and cultivate strong seedlings.

2. Heading for the stage. It refers to the stage of maize from jointing to tassel flowering, also known as vegetative growth and reproductive growth. During this period, the roots, stems and leaves grow vigorously, and the male and female ears differentiate and develop rapidly, which is the most vigorous period of maize growth and development in its life, and also the key period to determine the number of ears, ear size and grain number per ear. The central task of field management in this period is to promote strong and developed roots, stout stems, wide and thick leaves in the middle and fast closure.

3. Flowering period. From tassel flowering to grain maturity, it is also called reproductive growth period. The grain yield of maize is mainly formed by the platform products at this stage. Strengthening field management, ensuring fertilizer and water supply, ensuring normal flowering, pollination and fruiting, keeping green leaf area to the maximum, prolonging filling time, preventing disaster lodging, and striving for multi-grain, large-grain, whole-grain and high-yield are the central tasks at this stage.

Sowing specification

1. The yield of maize comes from the utilization of light energy and soil fertility. In a certain range, the greater the leaf area coefficient, the higher the utilization rate of light energy and the higher the yield. Therefore, reasonable close planting can obtain high yield. Planting density should be considered from varieties, sowing date, soil fertility, cultivation conditions and other factors. There are two plant types of corn: flat type and compact type. Popularized varieties should be planted thinly, generally 3000~3500 plants per mu. Compact varieties should be densely planted, generally 4500~5500 plants per mu.

2. There are two main sowing methods of corn: equal row spacing and wide and narrow rows. The planting specification of equal row spacing is 75cm, the plant spacing of compact varieties is 17 ~ 20cm, and the plant spacing of flat varieties is 25 ~ 30cm. The planting specifications of wide and narrow rows are 140 cm, the width is 40 cm, the spacing between compact varieties is about 15 cm, and the spacing between flat varieties is about 20 cm. At present, the fresh corn plants planted in our province are compact and suitable for close planting, with 3500~4000 plants per mu. The planting method mainly adopts wide and narrow rows, with a width of 70 cm, a narrow row of 40-50 cm and a spacing of 30 cm.
