What month is the rainy season in South China?

The rainy season in southern China is from June to July.

The rainy season is usually around June 14, which is adjacent to the annual Dragon Boat Festival. Old people with rich seasonal experience divide the rainy season into early plum and late plum.

Plum blossoms are early, which means that the rainy season in Hangzhou is early, and the rainy season in late May and early June is even early plum blossoms.

Chi Mei happened in late June.

Criteria for entry and exit of plums:

Plum entry: if the average temperature exceeds 22℃ for five consecutive days and it rains for four consecutive days, it is considered as plum entry.

Plum blossom: On the contrary, if the temperature exceeds 30℃ for five consecutive days and it doesn't rain, it means plum blossom. In ancient times, there was a proverb, "When the rain hits Huangmeitou, there will be no sun for forty-five days", which is characterized by high temperature and high humidity in the rainy season. Not only that, coastal cities in South China will also be hit by typhoons, and the weather and humidity will increase, making clothes and furniture more susceptible to mildew and moisture.

Where does the rainy season happen?

Other provinces also have rainy season, but it is not obvious. The typical rainy season mainly occurs in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, starting from Huanghuai area in the north, reaching the central and northern parts of Hunan, Jiangxi and Zhejiang provinces in the south, Yichang in Hubei province in the west and Shanghai in the east. The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China are usually rainy from mid-June to early July every year.

In the past few days, the sky has been gloomy and the precipitation has been constant, sometimes big and sometimes small. Therefore, there is a popular proverb in southern China: "Rain hits Huangmei's head and there is no sun for forty-five days." Continuous rain, high temperature and high humidity are the main characteristics of plum rain.

On the east coast of the mainland, summer is controlled by the west side of subtropical high, and downward flow is dry, but it absorbs a lot of water vapor from the warm and humid sea surface, which brings abundant precipitation and produces a subtropical humid climate. Due to the strong contrast between land and sea, a unique monsoon climate has formed here, which is characterized by rainy summer and dry winter, with rainfall concentrated in summer, which is just the opposite of the Mediterranean climate.

If compared with the east coast of the United States at the same latitude, it is also a world of difference. There will be no rainy weather for a long time before and after the summer monsoon in the mid-latitude zone of the east coast of the United States, and people do not feel the feeling of sultry weather for a long time, so it is difficult to appear moldy.

It can be seen that the precipitation season at the same latitude varies greatly. So there are only Huangmei in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, starting from the area east of Yichang and 29-33 degrees north latitude, as well as the southeast of Japan and the southernmost tip of the Korean Peninsula.
