1945 after the liberation of Korea, the state system was not perfect, but the Korean people were eager to cultivate the pillars of the country. Therefore, the government of Gyeongsangnam-do actively promoted the establishment of national universities, and began to raise funds for the establishment of national universities proposed by the United States Military Commission. With the participation of local people and enterprises, the amount raised exceeded the original plan of100,000, reaching103.29 million won. In this fund-raising, 6,543,800,000 won was used as the foundation fund of Busan National University, and the rest was used to purchase books from university libraries. On May 1946 and 15, Yin Renju, Chief Executive of Gyeongsangnam-do Education, and Captain Eddie, Educational Administrative Adviser, obtained the final approval from the Ministers of Culture and Education of Korea and the United States, and decided to establish the first comprehensive national university in Korea. The official name of the university is determined to be "Busan National University", which offers two colleges of humanities and fisheries. The concept of "truth, freedom and dedication" was determined by the first president of the university. On April 3rd, 1953, with the approval of the president, Busan University, which consists of six colleges, namely, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Law, School of Business, School of Engineering, College of Pharmacy and School of Medicine, was upgraded to a comprehensive university. On September 15 of the same year, according to the revision of the Decree on the Establishment of National Schools, the Decree on the Establishment of Busan University was promulgated by presidential decree. Busan University officially became a national comprehensive university, the earliest comprehensive national university in Korea. Although there were only two majors in humanities and aquatic products at the beginning of the school, after years of development, the school has become a large-scale academic research institution covering all major disciplines. The school contributes to national development by cultivating outstanding talents and leaders. Up to now, the university has trained more than 200,000 bachelors, 50,000 masters and 10000 doctors.
