When to plant the Star of Bethlehem (Learn the flower care tips for the Star of Bethlehem)

Velvet/Star of Bethlehem belongs to the genus Dieffenbachia of the Liliaceae family. There are about 100 species in this genus, among which the Star of Bethlehem is the most common one on the market.

This plant is a perennial bulbous plant of the Liliaceae family. It is called Dieffenbachia because each of its leaves is wrapped with a small ball. Lilies and tulips are also members of the Liliaceae family.

This pole is not its stem, but it is called "scape". So where did its stem go? At the bottom, the base is a metamorphosis stem: a bulb, like an onion, see the picture at the end of the article.

It has a pure white color and a pitiful appearance. Its floral meaning makes it very popular as a "wedding flower".

Because velvet flowers bloom in spring, they are often used for decoration during Easter in the United States. Star of Bethlehem is a perennial flowering bulbous plant, origin: southern South Africa. The Star of Bethlehem is also known as "Velvet", its Latin scientific name is "Ornithogalumumbellatum L.", its English name is "African wonderflower, Star of Bethlehem", and its Japanese name is "オルニトガルム".

Star of Bethlehem (Velvet) can bloom for up to 2 weeks in summer. It is great as a fresh cut flower. You don’t have to worry about it fading in a few days. And due to the natural and special posture of the Star of Bethlehem (velvet), the white and green color has a sense of luxury. Because the pole is long, it is especially suitable for concave shapes. The effect is very ideal when used for bridal bouquets and reception table flowers.

1. Velvet cut flowers have no leaves, just cut the roots and put them in the water at a low level to grow. The flowers will not bloom all at once. After the outer buds bloom, the middle buds will continue to bloom. Cut off the remaining flowers in time to extend the flowering period.

2. The velvet scapes are neat and clean, making it easy to maintain with water. If you are diligent, you can rinse the roots every day, cut them slightly and change the water. If you don't change them, the impact will not be big, and they will not become turbid easily.

3. Avoid strong light, otherwise the petals will roll up. Avoid placing it near the air outlet of the air conditioner and avoid spraying water on the flower head.

1. Transplanting: Dig the planting hole first, and sprinkle a layer of organic fertilizer at the bottom of the planting hole as base fertilizer ( Base fertilizer), with a thickness of 4-6 cm, then cover with a layer of soil and put in seedlings. Backfill the soil, cover the roots, and compact the soil firmly. Water thoroughly once and keep in a slightly shady environment for 1 week.

2. Daily management: Keep the soil moist and fertilize once every half month. After the flower stems are extracted, add phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once, and set up a grid; remove the remaining flower stems after flowering.

3. Lighting: direct sunlight is required in late autumn, winter and early spring. If you encounter hot weather or summer, you need to shade 50% of the light.

4. Temperature: It likes a cool climate, and the most suitable growth temperature is 15-28℃.

5. Water and fertilizer: Follow the fertilization principle of "a small amount and multiple times, with a balanced mix".
