Is it appropriate to go to Tibet in winter? What should you pay attention to when going to Tibet in winter?

Tibet is a dream destination for many travelers. Rumor has it that everyone has been there and everyone has evolved. This is a very pure and sacred place. Generally, the peak tourist season is in spring, summer vacation or holidays, so is it suitable to travel to Tibet in winter? Will it be cold in Tibet? What should you pay attention to when traveling to Tibet in winter? Let us introduce you to the editor’s works.

Winter is still very suitable for going to Tibet. Although the weather is bad, Tibet in winter is really beautiful and a completely different scene, so it is still worth going there, but winter is very dangerous, so you must be prepared in advance before going.

1. Advantages of winter travel to Tibet

Air tickets are cheap. It’s much more comfortable to fly into Tibet!

Young tourists, you won’t see so many colorful jackets in Jokhang Temple Square.

The price of the inn will be very low, and there are many chartered tours and so on, and the prices are also low. Many attractions will be in off-season, and the price of Potala Palace is not restricted, and the price is half of that in peak season.

In winter, the sun is shining brightly. Have a chat over a sweet tea and feel the comfort of a slow pace.

The glacier will look very good, hahahaha, super good-looking~ The girl took a photo with a red dress, it looks good!

2. Disadvantages of traveling to Tibet in winter

Although it does not snow, it can also freeze like Namtso. It’s not that beautiful, and it’s very cold by the lake!

There will be dark ice on the road, making driving to other attractions difficult or even dangerous.

Not suitable for Mount Everest, camping at other attractions, etc.

The winter is very dry and windy. But it’s dry all year round and I’m used to it. It doesn't matter.

3. Guide to traveling to Tibet in winter

Although the scenery is not as good as that in spring and summer, the style is unique.

If you are just traveling, it will be cloudless and sunny in winter, and there will not be a drop of rain in the urban area. It's just a little cooler in the morning and evening, so you need to wear more clothes (usually thermal underwear as a base, a shirt, a jacket, and sometimes a windbreaker). In the remote areas of Shigatse, you have to ask the locals when traveling in winter. In some places, there are strong winds around 12 o'clock in autumn and winter, making it difficult to go out.

But not everyone is suitable for going to Tibet in winter.

I encountered those who are afraid of the cold, those who go to high places in summer, those who like to hang out with Han tourists to find a sense of security, and those who can’t stand poor accommodation conditions (most of the mainland businessmen who are mainly tourists have gone home) Delays in your schedule will drive you crazy, so if you want to go to an area with a particularly high altitude, wait. If they meet one of these requirements, don't go.

Those who like the original Tibetan experience, are not afraid of the cold and are not opposed to heights, and have plenty of time can go wherever they want. Welcome to Tibet in winter! Several other people also mentioned that accommodation tickets are cheaper in winter and the scenery and ethnic customs are more Tibetan.

If you just stay in Lhasa, winter will be quite comfortable.

However, it is recommended not to go to places above an altitude of 5,000 meters in winter. The weather was so bad, the kind of bad weather that caused personal and outdoor accidents.

The Everest base camp is closed and Mount Kailash is transferred to the mountain. Don't think about it, the road on the Ali Dabei Line is closed.

If you are a humanities lover, you will feel the simplest and most authentic Tibet in winter. To quote a friend of mine who lives in Tibet and Nepal, "Lhasa in winter belongs to the people of Lhasa."

If you prefer natural scenery, frozen holy lakes, clean glaciers, lazy The sunshine will never let you down.

Even if you don’t do anything, just basking in the Lhasa sun will be very comfortable.

The lakes in Tibet are really beautiful, and the frozen scenery in winter is also spectacular.

The most famous holy lakes are Namtso and Yangzhuoyongcuo. This time I went to Yanghu, Basongtso, and Skin Latso, but I think Lamu Latso, Mabian Yongtso, and Pema Lintso are more meaningful. I will try to go to Tibet next time.

This is Glacier No. 40, named after the No. 40 boundary monument between China and Bhutan. It is one of the few glaciers in China that can be climbed without any equipment, but you can only climb to the second floor. The altitude here is 5,300 meters, and the snow-capped mountains behind the glacier are Bhutan.

Driving on a road without a road, 40 Glaciers is now famous. When we were approaching the glacier, we saw some Tibetans squatting and a Tibetan Mastiff on the roadside. If you don't give something, you won't be allowed through.

Drive across the lake and then walk 10 minutes to the foot of the glacier.

If you think just looking at glaciers is ordinary, let’s take some photos of people for comparison.

Why is this glacier suitable for winter? 95% of the days in winter in Tibet are sunny and the weather is relatively stable. Whether it’s snowy mountains, lakes or glaciers, it’s best to see the sun!

But the ultraviolet rays in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are not generally strong.

The above three places are my favorite and highly recommended places, suitable for traveling in winter.

To put it simply, the route usually set by the team is:

The first day: Lhasa-Phumoyumcuo-Tui Village

The second day: Tuicun-40 Glacier-Lhasa

You can choose to live in Tuicun, but the conditions are very simple, with high altitude and no water; you can also choose to live in Langkazi, where the conditions in the county are relatively better.

We set off directly from Lhasa and spent 6 hours on a plateau at an altitude of 5,000 meters. It was very exciting. I saw yaks and Tibetan antelopes many times, and the animals were so adorable.

When I came back, the tire was stuck with a nail. Fortunately, the Tibetans who collected tolls helped us change the tires. Although it took us nearly 2 hours to get back to Lhasa after 10pm, it was a rare experience and should be cherished.

4. Be careful when traveling to Tibet in winter

The oxygen content in Tibet is 5% lower in winter and the climate is drier.

Air tickets are very cheap. (For me, it costs 360 yuan on China Eastern Airlines from Shanghai to Chongqing; 400 yuan on Air China from Chongqing to Lhasa; both are tax-included and the time period is also very good)

If you are here for the Spring Festival, you can take Sichuan People's cars. The price has dropped to 700 yuan, and you can go home while playing.

You cannot stay overnight at Namtso and Everest Base Camp in winter. You have to go back and forth on the same day or choose to stay in a nearby county.

In general, winter is coming and it is very, very suitable to stay in Lhasa.
