Does anyone know how the typhoon in the weather forecast is named?
Typhoon is a kind of tropical cyclone. Meteorologically, a typhoon refers to a tropical cyclone that occurs in the western part of the North Pacific Ocean (west of international date line, including the Sea of China), and the maximum sustained wind speed near the center reaches 12 and above (that is, more than 32.6 meters per second). As for tropical cyclones that occur in the Atlantic Ocean or the eastern North Pacific Ocean and reach the same intensity, they are called hurricanes.
According to the regulations of the International Meteorological Organization, tropical cyclones in the northwest Pacific and the South China Sea can be divided into five categories. The grades and names published in different places are sometimes slightly different.
Because there may be multiple typhoons in the ocean at the same time, the joint typhoon warning center established by the US military in Guam (now moved to Hawaii) during World War II is used to naming each typhoon. The first names were all women, and later the male names were added to 1979. Since 2000, the name of typhoon has been changed to Typhoon Committee of the International Meteorological Organization. At present, the names of typhoons in the Northwest Pacific and South China Sea are provided by members of Typhoon Committee 14 (China, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, etc.). ), divided into five groups.
The actual naming work was entrusted to the Japan Meteorological Agency (Tokyo Professional Meteorological Center) in this area. Whenever the Japan Meteorological Agency determines a tropical cyclone in the northwest Pacific or the South China Sea as the intensity of a tropical storm, it will give it a name and a four-digit number according to the list. The first two digits of the number are the year, and the last two digits are the order of tropical storms in that year. For example, 03 12, that is, tropical stormNo. 12 in 2003 (when it reaches the intensity of a strong tropical storm, it is called a strong tropical storm 12; When it reaches the typhoon intensity, it is called Typhoon 12, named KROVANH in English and Korowang in Chinese; 03 13 was the tropical stormNo. 13 in 2003, which was named Du Juan in English and Du Fu in Chinese. The Chinese name of typhoon is determined by China Meteorological Bureau after consulting the meteorological departments of Hongkong and Macao.
