Song Junqiang has been working in the front line of military numerical weather forecasting technology and equipment development for a long time, and has been responsible for completing more than 2 major national and military scientific research projects, breaking through a series of core key technologies that restrict the improvement of our military's numerical weather forecasting accuracy, and solving the problem of efficient parallel calculation of numerical weather forecasting using domestic high-performance computers.

During the Ninth Five-Year Plan period, as the technical director, he was responsible for the development of the key military project "the first generation of military numerical weather forecasting system" and the key air force project "the first phase of the air force aviation medium-term numerical weather forecasting operational system", which filled the gap in our military's medium-term numerical weather forecasting business; During the Tenth Five-Year Plan period, he presided over the development of the key project of the Navy "Global Medium-Term Numerical Weather Forecast System" and the key project of the Second Artillery Corps "Boundary Layer High Resolution Numerical Weather Forecast System", which solved the urgent need for meteorological support of the Navy and the Second Artillery Corps. During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, he presided over the development of the second generation military numerical weather forecasting system, a key military project.

these systems have been put into operation in the General Staff, Navy, Air Force, Second Artillery Corps and other units. The forecast products have become the basic basis for daily weather consultation and forecast support of meteorological support units at all levels in the whole army, and have played an important role in the meteorological support of military daily training, major military operations and national defense scientific experiments, greatly improving our military's fine meteorological support capability.

In recent years, Song Junqiang has served as the head of several research projects on near-space environmental forecasting technology. Focusing on the new demand of developing and utilizing near-space for atmospheric environmental protection, he has solved key technologies such as global near-space-troposphere integrated forecasting model and reanalysis of atmospheric observation data, and initially expanded the meteorological support scope of our army from the traditional troposphere to the middle and lower parts of near-space.
