What is the weather like in Syria?
The coastal and northern areas of the Syrian Arab Republic have a subtropical Mediterranean climate, while the southern areas have a tropical desert climate.
The climate in Syria is relatively dry, with three-fifths of the country receiving less than 25 centimeters of rainfall throughout the year. This is mainly due to the obstruction of high mountains. It rains in winter, is dry in summer, and spring and autumn are two short transition seasons. Coastal areas have a lot of rain in winter, while mountainous areas have a lot of rain and snow in winter. The coastal and northern areas have a subtropical Mediterranean climate.
The southern region has a tropical desert climate. There are four distinct seasons, with less rainfall in desert areas in winter and dry, hot summers. Grasslands and deserts account for more than half of the country's area.
Syria has a relatively mild climate, with average temperatures of 32°C in summer, 10°C in winter, and 22°C in spring and autumn. The average temperature in Damascus, the capital city located in the southwest of the country, is around 17°C, but temperatures are higher in July and August.
