Nanjing in May 2022

From June 23, 2022, Nanjing entered the rainy season, which was slightly later than normal (June 202219); Plum blossoms appeared in the first half of mid-July, which was the same as normal (July 13). The length of meiyu period is close to normal or slightly shorter (23-24 days a year), and the amount of meiyu is 250-300mm, which is close to normal (258.8-293.0mm a year).

In 2022, the Meiyu belt in Nanjing swung from north to south, and the precipitation showed the characteristics of strong convection, heavy rainfall and uneven distribution of rainfall. During this period, there may be obvious intermittent precipitation and staged high temperature weather.

Formation conditions of plum rain

Every spring, the warm and humid air is gradually strengthened. After entering the mainland from the sea, it meets the cold air from north to south. Because the warm and humid air flowing out of the ocean contains a lot of water vapor, it forms a long rain belt.

The western Pacific subtropical high has an obvious process of extending westward and jumping northward. The ridge line of the 500 hPa subtropical high is stable between 20 and 25 degrees north latitude, and the warm and humid air flow is transported from the edge of the subtropical high to the Jianghuai Basin.
