Northerners are twice as obese as southerners. What is the reason?

1. What's the difference between overweight and obesity?

At present, a widely used international standard to measure the degree of obesity and health is mainly Body Mass Index (namely, body mass index, abbreviated as body mass index in English).

Its calculation formula is body mass index = weight (kg)÷ height? (m)

According to the calculation results, if the body mass index is between 25.0 and 29.9, it is overweight, and if the body mass index is greater than 30.0, it is obese.

Ranking, mainly based on the number of overweight people as the first indicator, is arranged from top to bottom (the proportion calculated according to the body mass index, not the body mass index itself). The reason why the proportion of overweight and obesity is not absolutely proportional is mainly because of the wide range of overweight. Most obese people, or people who feel obese, are just overweight according to the evaluation standard of body mass index, and have not yet entered the obesity range.

However, among people with overweight body mass index, the heavier the weight, the greater the risk of obesity.

2. Why is the obesity rate in northern provinces generally higher than that in the south?

The reason why obesity rate is emphasized rather than overweight rate is because the range of overweight is relatively wider, and it is more direct to analyze it with obesity rate as an index.

According to the above ranking, the top five provinces with obesity rate are:

Number one? Beijing 25.9

Second? Hebei 22.2

Third? Xinjiang 2 1.5

Fourth? Tianjin 2 1.2

Fifth? Heilongjiang is 19.8, and the provinces with the lowest obesity rate are Guangxi, Hainan, Tibet, Guizhou and Sichuan. It basically belongs to the southwest region.

According to our understanding of obese customers, most people are obese because of poor eating habits. These bad eating habits include improper diet, insufficient exercise, irregular sleep, and heavy work pressure.

Compared with the whole country, it is likely that the regional differences are caused by environmental factors such as climate, soil and water, eating habits and so on.

The main reasons may lie in the following:

Different diet structure? As a result, the calorie intake in the north is high, and northerners eat more pasta, while southerners eat more rice. Rice and pasta are carbohydrates. As two major components of staple food, there is little difference in energy and carbohydrate content in its nutritional components. There are no absolute advantages and disadvantages according to different eating habits.

Northerners, on the whole, are physically strong and have a relatively large intake of staple food; In the diet in the north, there are mostly grains and relatively few vegetables, so it is easy to eat too many staple foods. In the case of increased intake, even if you eat more food with the same calorie, it is easy to get fat;

The high obesity rate in Xinjiang may be related to eating meat. Cattle and sheep eat a lot of meat, and if they eat both fat and lean meat, they will consume more fat. The fat of these red meats will increase the accumulation of calories and fat to a certain extent, forming obesity;

Northerners are generous, heavy drinkers and keen to persuade wine. Most people drink a lot, drink too much at various dinners (they eat too much snacks), and intakes too much oil and calories invisibly, leading to obesity;

Different climates and cold weather may also be auxiliary factors of obesity.

It's cold in winter, and southerners may go out for a hot pot at most. Northerners can eat hot pot outside, drink cold drinks and eat ice cream inside, and eat more than southerners for a whole winter ... Of course, this is only a small possibility. The main reason is that the weather in the north is cold early and long. When the weather is cold (even if there is heating in the room), but the overall temperature is still low, people will unconsciously want to absorb and store more calories, and prefer to eat hot, high-calorie food to resist the cold. This is why many places have the saying that autumn is "long and fat".

When the weather is cold, outdoor sports will definitely drop sharply, and naturally you will eat more and exercise less. In the long run, it is inevitable that there will be more fat people.

Of course, this is not the reason why you can make yourself fat in the north. Adhere to good eating habits, increase exercise and maintain a healthy and good life. No matter where you are, you can still keep in good shape.

Cheap ingredients are high in calories, so people in this place are more likely to get fat; On the contrary, cheap ingredients are low in calories, so people in this place are less likely to get fat. On the other hand, in northern China, although there is no invasion of French fries burgers, food with higher calories is cheaper than that in the south.

At other times, the price is roughly the same. The prices of pork, chicken and eggs in most parts of the north are 20% lower than those in most parts of the south. And these three just account for half of China people's sources of protein.

Regarding the price of low-calorie vegetables, taking Heilongjiang as an example, the price of vegetables

Seasonal fluctuation shows a V-shaped trend, which is cheap in summer and expensive in winter. However, the price of vegetables in the south is not greatly affected by this.

In the most common vegetarian diet in northern winter, potatoes pretend to be vegetables, occupying a large part of the plate. So many northerners will be lighter in summer than in winter. In addition to the cold weather to promote appetite, the change of ingredients is also an important reason.

In other words, in the north, if you cook by yourself, you will be more inclined to buy meat, poultry, eggs and milk; If you order takeout, the merchants are willing to put more meat and eggs to lay a solid foundation for getting fat.

The cruel reality tells us that most people can't get rid of the curse of eating when they have money, except for a few middle-class people who can control their bodies. It is one of the most common tragedies in daily life that students who were originally thin began to gain weight two years after graduation.

This has led to a social phenomenon: the rich are getting thinner and the poor are getting fatter. This is because after the cost of food is reduced to a certain range, the cost of obesity is very low, while losing weight requires more money and more self-control. This phenomenon, as far as China is concerned, mostly occurs in the north.

When people get fat, they will feel hostile to the world. There are even data showing that northerners are fatter than southerners. There may be the following reasons:

1, North and South have different eating habits.

Northerners' diet has always been moderate, and they like high-salt and high-oil food, which is absolutely enough. Moreover, in the diet of northern urban residents, there are fewer and fewer whole grains, and more and more foods with high fat and cholesterol. Accumulating in such a diet is equivalent to increasing the obesity factor.

In Guangxi, Guangdong and Hainan, people's eating habits pay attention to nourishing nutrition and the diversity of colors and cooking methods. Moreover, South China is rich in vegetables, fruits, marine fish and toiletries, which are good for health.

2. The north loves wine and the south loves tea.

In the north, many people think that meat and wine are good days. Long-term heavy drinking will increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia and gout. In addition, eating too greasy and drinking too much is also the culprit of esophageal cancer and liver cancer. Most southerners like drinking tea. Chinese medicine believes that tea has the effect of warming the middle warmer, and green tea is a famous anticancer drink.

3. The metabolism is slow in the north and fast in the south.

The higher the latitude, the colder the weather, the less exercise and the slower the metabolism, which is the main cause of obesity. In the cold areas of Northeast China, residents have formed the habit of eating more and exercising less, which has also caused the high obesity rate in Northeast China. Moreover, the obesity rate in southern China is low, one of the reasons is that the local people's metabolism is fast due to the hot weather. Therefore, to lose weight and improve metabolic rate, northerners must exercise more than southerners.

Northerners gobble, while southerners chew slowly.

Watching northerners eat is always an outbreak of taste buds. Seeing how delicious they eat, they will unconsciously follow. Southerners, on the other hand, like to chew slowly and absorb slowly. Jiao Donghai of Shenyang suggested that it would take some time for a person's stomach to feel saturated again, so chewing slowly left enough time for this reaction and naturally ate less.
