High temperature weather is harmful to corn, how to reduce the loss of prevention?

Our village is the leading corn grower in Fiona Fang for dozens of miles, and many buyers come to our village to collect corn every year. But I belong to northern Jiangsu, and the temperature in summer is basically above 30 degrees. If the temperature keeps above 38 degrees, it will be difficult for the corn in the field to grow well, and there will be no merchants to buy it, which means that the corn we have worked so hard to plant can only rot in the field and can't even get it back! So what's the effect of hot weather on corn?

1. shortened growth period

Hot weather will accelerate the development of corn, for example, the female ear of corn is differentiating, and high temperature will make the floret of the female ear bloom less and the fruit of corn smaller. Not only can the corn yield not go up, but the quality of corn seeds will also decline! As soon as the merchants saw this kind of corn, they turned their heads and left.

2. Photosynthesis will also be affected.

If exposed to high temperature continuously, it will soften the stems and leaves of maize, close the stomata above the plant and reduce photosynthesis. Corn can't absorb enough nutrients from soil and the outside world in time, but it needs to consume more energy to survive. After a long time, plants don't grow tall and corn doesn't grow well!

3. Open pollination period

July is an important period for corn growth every year. High temperature will reduce the growth ability and transmission ability of male and female ears, which will eventually lead to poor fruit development and too few grains on corn. Then the overall yield of corn in the whole field will drop.

So how can we prevent high temperature from causing bad effects on corn?

1. Select heat-resistant seeds.

When selecting seeds, try to choose varieties with high temperature and heat resistance. Such seeds have stronger growth ability than ordinary seeds even in sudden drought or high temperature environment.

2. Artificial pollination when necessary.

If the temperature is above 38 degrees, artificial pollination should be adopted to help the pollen spread among the ears of corn and accelerate the fertilization process to ensure the normal heading process of corn. Note that artificial pollination must be selected between 8: 00 am and 10 am, so the success rate is high.

3. The spacing between plants should be reasonable.

When sowing corn seeds, the seed spacing must be moderate, not too close. In this way, each seed can absorb enough nutrients and fertility, and the fruit will be more solid. The phenomenon of poor ear length of corn caused by insufficient division of fertility and water in soil will not occur. Even if you encounter high temperature, you can rely on your own ability to reduce the harm caused by high temperature.

3. Scientific fertilization

Manure is commonly used for corn in our village. With the development of science and technology, many fertilizers came into being. Besides using manure as fertilizer, we can also choose to buy some organic fertilizer. Organic fertilizer can help the development of corn, supplement the trace elements needed for the growth of corn, and make the ears of corn grow big and full.

4. Irrigation during drought

If the weather is dry, water the ground in time to increase soil fertility and moisture. The longer the plants grow, the better. If you have the conditions at home, you can water other parts of the leaves with water pipes, so the cooling effect will be better! This can also reduce the occurrence of corn yield reduction and poor quality.
