Is there an airport in Linzhi?
Yes. Nyingchi Milin Airport has the lowest altitude in Tibet and the highest flight difficulty in China. It is the third civil aviation airport in Tibet. The airport is 2,949 meters above sea level and is a plateau airport.
Lynzhi Airport is located in the Yarlung Zangbo River Valley in Milin County, Nyingchi Prefecture, 50 kilometers away from Bayi Town, the capital of Nyingchi, with an altitude of 2,949 meters, lower than the 4,334-meter Chamdo Bangda Airport and the 3,570-meter Lhasa Gonggar Airport. , its altitude ranks twelfth among domestic civil airports.
The Nyingchi Milin Airport (IATA code: LZY, ICAO code: ZUNZ) started construction in October 2003 and was officially opened to air traffic at the end of September 1, 2006. With a total investment of 780 million yuan, it is the largest airport in Tibet. One of the key projects of the autonomous region, it is designed to transport 120,000 passengers per year.
Lingzhi Airport is located in a mountain valley, surrounded by high mountains with an altitude of more than 4,000 meters that are shrouded in clouds and fog all year round. Planes can only take off and land in the narrow and winding valley. The narrowest part of the flight channel is two meters away from the valley. The side ridge is less than 4 kilometers away; in addition, the airport is prone to low cloud weather, changeable wind directions and turbulent airflows such as wind shear. Aircraft can only take off and land in the morning, and the total airworthiness time in the year is only 100 days. As of 2008, Linzhi Airport has opened a route to Chengdu, operated by Air China B757 aircraft.
Since the route passes through the canyon and is narrow and winding, exceeding normal flight standards, the aircraft's automatic ground proximity alarm device may be triggered at any time during the descent approach. At the same time, due to the complex terrain, the signal emitted by the navigation equipment will be seriously affected. Due to terrain obstruction and interference, the flight airspace is greatly restricted, and the Milin navigation station to the west of the airport is only 11.2 kilometers away from the China-India Actual Control Line, which puts the crew's technical level and psychological quality to a severe test, requiring every aerial turn of the crew. and every altitude change must be precise. Due to its unique plateau topography and harsh and changeable meteorological conditions, Linzhi Airport has the most complex civil aviation clearance environment, meteorological conditions, navigation station layout and flight procedures in China, and the most difficult to ensure aircraft takeoffs and landings and flight punctuality. The airport is also one of the most difficult to fly into in the world.
