Service scope of Hong Kong Weather Information Center

The weather forecast headquarters of the Observatory operates 24 hours a day and regularly provides weather reports to newspapers, radio stations, television stations and other communication organizations in need. According to the requirements, the weather report will include tropical cyclone warning, rainstorm warning, thunderstorm warning, landslide warning, fire warning, strong monsoon warning, hot and cold weather warning and frost warning. In addition, the Observatory will also issue an ultraviolet index report to provide information on the intensity of solar ultraviolet rays in Hong Kong, so as to let the public know the potential adverse effects of ultraviolet rays on health. Members of the public can also obtain the above information directly through the telephone weather service of the Observatory and the website of the Observatory. In addition, the public can get all kinds of meteorological and geophysical information and time services by calling the weather service. The Observatory also provides weather information to some commercial communication and paging service companies, which can be obtained by the public through different electronic media. Apart from providing weather services to the public, we also provide special weather services to the international aviation and shipping industry and local organizations whose operations are vulnerable to weather, such as public power companies, container terminals and transportation companies. Organizations are also easily affected by the weather in their operation, and provide necessary suggestions at a specific time or when the weather deteriorates to a certain extent.
