Physical geography of Shigu town

Shigu Town is located in the southwest border of Xiangtan County, which belongs to the hilly region of Hunan Province in the south of the Yangtze River. It mainly belongs to Lengjiaxi (with a thickness of more than 3,500m) and Banxi Group (with a thickness of1.600m). Magmatic rocks are distributed in Zhoujialing area of Ma Xie, belonging to pyroclastic rocks. It is a compound granite body, and the dikes are arranged obliquely from east to west, with a vein length of about one kilometer. Shigu District and Ming Dow District are also distributed in many places. This kind of granite, with gray and hemp cross section, high hardness and strong weathering resistance, is a good building material, and can also be made into solid and beautiful marble and other plates by machinery.

This town is characterized by low mountains and hills. From southwest, northwest to northeast, surrounded by mountains, it is open to Qingshanqiao Town in the southeast. The highest point is Jin 'ao Peak in Changshan, with an altitude of 755. 1 m, which is one of the 72 peaks in Nanyue. The lowest point is the Mojia village group in Julian village, with an altitude of 75.6 meters; The land in the town is high in the west and low in the east, with high mountains in the northwest, southwest and southeast, low along the river in the middle and inclined from west to east. Qingshan River, a tributary of Juanshui, originates from the highest peak village in the town, flows through our town 17 villages, with a total length of 15 km, leaves Gaotunba and flows to Qingshanqiao Town.

Shigu Town has a humid subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, long winter and summer, and short spring and autumn. The annual average temperature is about 16℃, and the annual average precipitation is about 1300mm. High temperature and heavy rainfall in summer are suitable for double cropping rice. The weather in spring is changeable, with low temperature and rainy weather, and it is often cold in spring, which affects the sowing of early rice and other crops.

Under the high temperature and rainy climate conditions, the soil in the vast hilly areas of this town is mostly red soil with more iron and aluminum components, which is acidic and has low fertility. Forest trees suitable for mountain soil mainly include Pinus massoniana, Cunninghamia lanceolata, Camellia oleifera, Tung oil tree and Phyllostachys pubescens. The dry soil is suitable for planting cash crops such as tea, plums, grapes, sweet potatoes, oranges and peppers. Paddy field is suitable for planting rice, characteristic sweet potato and Xiang Lian.
