Why did Van Gogh commit suicide?
Van Gogh was born in a Protestant pastor's family in the Dutch village of Dherdt on March 30th, 853. In his early years, he worked as a shop assistant, business agent and missionary in a mining area. Finally, he devoted himself to painting. His early painting style was realistic, influenced by Dutch traditional painting and French realistic painting school.
1886, he came to Paris, met impressionist and neo-impressionist painters, and got in touch with Japanese ukiyo-e paintings. The expansion of his vision has greatly changed his painting style, and his paintings have changed from dull and dim in the early days to simple, bright and strong colors. 1888, he came to arles, a small town in the south of France. He has got rid of the influence of Impressionism and neo-impressionism and moved to the opposite position.
In the same year, I came into contact with Gauguin, but due to the conflict of personality and the difference of ideas, the cooperation soon failed. Since then, Van Gogh's madness (some people recorded it as "epilepsy") often broke out, but he still insisted on painting when he was conscious. 1890 In July, at the age of 37, he shot himself insanely.
Extended data:
Van Gogh's life is full of legends. He loves life, but he has suffered many setbacks and hardships in life. He devoted himself to art, boldly innovated, had his own unique artistic style and created many excellent works. However, he only sold one work, The Red Vineyard, when the price was only 400 francs.
100 years later, his paintings became world-famous treasures.
Because of the contrast between painting and reality, Van Gogh's mood fluctuated greatly, and he was diagnosed as mental illness in 1888. Later, he was tortured by this insanity. Finally,1On July 27th, 890, he borrowed a revolver from others, went to a wheat field outside Orville and pulled the trigger on himself.
He suffered for two days, and the painful Van Gogh died at the age of 37.
Most writings about Van Gogh say that the painter "died of mental illness". A strong evidence is that in 19 14, Van Gogh's sister-in-law johanna published some letters written by the painter to her brother Theo, and said in the preface that this artist, regarded as a mentor by the "Fauvism" and "Expressionism" painters in the 20th century, was an artistic martyr tortured by his brother's meticulous care and misfortune.
Arnold, an art historian in Munich, believes that the root of Van Gogh's illness is severe depression, accompanied by hysterical complete nervous breakdown.
However, some people have raised questions. They think that a person who is insane and out of control can't create such a measured and skillful work as self-portrait before he dies.
