Typhoon No.3 in Ayunni Island in 2006

On June 29th, 2006, a tropical disturbance located to the east of Palau was confirmed as a tropical depression by joint typhoon warning center, USA, and moved to the northwest. The next day, it was upgraded to a tropical storm by the joint typhoon warning center, and the Japan Meteorological Agency named the storm "Ayunni" on the same day.

In the next two days, Ayouni moved to the west-northwest direction, bringing heavy rain and small-scale floods to Yap Island. Ai Yunni then turned to the northwest, reaching the peak intensity of the ten-minute average wind speed 100 knots (185 km/h) set by the Japan Meteorological Agency or 130 knots (240 km/h) set by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, and the lowest pressure in the center was as low as 930 hectopascals. Since then, Ayouni turned to the north and swept across East China, evacuating many urban residents in coastal areas.

Ayouni weakened gradually when moving to the sea area with lower water temperature, and landed in South Korea with the intensity of a strong tropical storm on July 10. When Ayouni crossed the Korean peninsula, he entered within 50 kilometers of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. A day later, Ayouni became an extratropical cyclone in the Sea of Japan. China

When Ayouni began to threaten the eastern coastal areas of China, the China government ordered the residents in low-lying areas to evacuate urgently. 7634 people were evacuated in Ningbo; In Ningbo and Zhoushan, more than 8,000 ships were asked to return to the port for shelter. The authorities predicted that Ayouni would affect Shanghai on July 9, and the municipal flood control headquarters asked officials to prepare for resisting Taiwan.

Japan

When Ai Yunni approached the Ryukyu Islands, the sasebo Naval Facility (English: Fleet Activities Sasebo) in Kyushu issued a three-level warning of tropical cyclone readiness on July 7 16, local time. A day ago, several US warships also made corresponding preparations.

On July 7th, all bases of the US military stationed in Okinawa upgraded the tropical cyclone warning to Grade II, and upgraded it to Grade 1E the next morning, with an estimated wind speed of 50 knots (95km/h). All outdoor activities are forbidden.

South Korea

Ayouni threatened the Korean peninsula after sweeping the Ryukyu Islands. The Korea Meteorological Bureau issued typhoon warnings in most parts of the country, and also issued typhoon reports on Dokdo and Ulleungdo.

The navy stationed in South Korea and the United States issued a three-level tropical cyclone preparedness warning, which was upgraded to the second level on July 8, and the US military stationed in South Korea was upgraded to the first level. After Ayouni landed in July 10, the US military cancelled the alarm. Ayouni's path and its long life span have affected many places, causing at least 40 deaths and causing great damage to the passing areas.

Yap and Palau

In the early days, Ayouni influenced Yap and Palau within the monitoring scope of Guam National Weather Service. Ayouni caused floods 1.5 meters high along the coast of Yap, which also destroyed the energy supply of the whole island. However, according to the report of the National Weather Service after the storm, the strengthened building structure after Typhoon Sutter hit Yap Island in 2004 reduced the damage caused by Ayouni on the island. Ayouni's loss in Yap is about $654.38 million.

Ai Yunni brought about 6 1 mm rainfall to Yapu, and korol, Palau recorded a 24-hour rainfall of 48 mm from 0600 UTC on July 2nd to 0600 UTC on July 3rd. The highest gust recorded on Yapu Road is 53 knots (98 km/h); The highest gust recorded in korol is 46 knots (85km/h). Ayouni did not cause death in Yap and Palau.

China

Ai Yunni killed at least 34 people in China, and even northwestern provinces such as Gansu and Shaanxi were affected by landslides. However, landslides may only be caused by Ai Yunni and other weather systems, so the casualties caused by these landslides are regarded as the indirect effects of Ai Yunni. From July 9 to midnight on July 10, the average rainfall in Shandong is 3.4 mm per hour (* * * about 6 1.2 mm). At the Beijing Capital International Airport, at least 300 flights were delayed due to thunderstorms and Evian, and China International Airlines and China Eastern Airlines also cancelled flights from China to South Korea.

There are no serious losses reported, because Ayouni has no direct impact on Chinese mainland.

Japan

Ai Yunni brought heavy rain to Okinawa, and air and sea traffic in the prefecture stopped. As the hotel is almost full, about 3500 tourists are stranded in several airports.

The highest wind speed recorded locally is 34.9 meters per second (per hour 126 km), and the sand on the beach is blown to the back garden of residential buildings and accumulated to 7 cm. Yun Ni destroyed sugar cane and vegetables with a total value of 20 million yen. Mature fruits cannot be shipped overseas due to bad weather, and farmers suffer losses.

In Nagao, seven people were crushed to death by a blown billboard, and a girl from Yaeyase town was blown down and injured.

South Korea

Ayouni caused serious damage in South Korea, with 150 square miles of agricultural land flooded and most land and air traffic delayed or cancelled. Landslides and floods destroyed roads and dams. In Jeollanam-do, a landslide destroyed a temple. According to an official, the flood damaged 600 houses.

According to the Korea Meteorological Bureau, the rainfall in southern Korea reached 234 mm; Xianyang County, Gyeongsangnam-do recorded 199 to 260 mm of rainfall.

In Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeju Island, about 300 schools were ordered to close due to bad weather. However, a school in Jeju Island ignored the order and two people were injured. There are also people injured in other parts of South Korea, and eight people in the country are dead or missing because of Ayouni.

North Korea; South Korea

Because North Korea's information is closed, there is not much information about Ayouni's influence in that country. However, Time magazine reported that the storm left 60,000 people homeless in North Korea.
