Beihai is located at the southern end of Guangxi, on the northeastern coast of Beibu Gulf. It is located between 108°50′45″~109°47′28″ east longitude and 21°29′~21°55′34″ north latitude. It is 206 kilometers from Nanning to the northwest, 198 kilometers from Zhanjiang to the east, and 147 nautical miles from Haikou City to the southeast. The urban area is surrounded by the sea on three sides from north to south and west. There are two islands, Weizhou (24.74 square kilometers) and Xieyang (1.8 square kilometers). Weizhou is about 20.2 nautical miles away from the urban area.

Beihai City faces Hainan Province across the sea, is adjacent to Southeast Asian countries, and is backed by Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces in Southwest China. It is at the center of Southwest China, Hainan, and Southeast Asia and enjoys a superior geographical location.
