When is the kiln god’s birthday?
The Kiln God’s birthday is on the 18th of the twelfth lunar month.
The kiln god is the god of coal kilns, also known as the kiln prince, formerly known as the god who rules the brick and tile kilns. One of the Chinese folk beliefs is that the 18th day of the twelfth lunar month of each year is the birthday of the kiln god (the god who protects the safety of coal mines), and it is also a festival to pay tribute to the kiln god. There is a short stone stele "Deyinghou Stele" in the Forest of Steles in Xi'an, China, which is the earliest kiln god stele in China.
The discovery of the Deyinghou Monument was a complete coincidence. In the early 1950s, Mr. Chen Wanli and Feng Xianming, China's famous ancient ceramic experts, went to Huangbao Town, Yao County to investigate the Yaozhou kiln ruins. , unexpectedly discovered the "Deyinghou Monument". At that time, there was a district primary school (later changed to the No. 4 Middle School) on the roadside. They asked about it and learned that it was originally the Dongyue Temple and the old building still existed.
Introduction to the twelfth lunar month
The twelfth lunar month is another name for the twelve months at the end of the year. As for "La", there are records of "Roufu" and "Lamei" as early as "Zhouyi" and "Zhouli" and other works. The original meaning of "La" is "dried meat". There are many names for the end of December, among which the most well-known is undoubtedly the nickname "Twelfth Month". The weather in this month is most suitable for drying and making preserved meat, so it is called the "Twelfth Moon".
Due to the transition period between the old and the new, December at the end of the year is a month with more sacrifices. As early as the pre-Qin period, some places in my country have held "end-of-year sacrifices" in this month when the old and the new are handed over. Because the end of December has other names such as "Twelfth Month" and "Ladong", the sacrifices held in this month are called "Year-End Sacrifice". Wax Festival".
In ancient times, there were many nicknames for months, and each nickname had its own different meaning. In addition to the nickname "twelfth lunar month", the last twelfth month of the year also has other nicknames such as month, late winter, twelfth lunar month, Jiaping, Jidong, and severe winter. The twelfth lunar month now usually refers to the twelfth month of the lunar calendar.
