How to forecast the weather in the era of artificial intelligence
The development of weather forecast has gone through the process from qualitative forecast and descriptive forecast to digital and grid forecast. For example, the urban weather forecast issued by China's meteorological department originally only included weather phenomena, high and low temperatures, wind speed and wind direction forecasts in more than 2,400 towns, and the frequency was only three times a day, so the time accuracy and spatial accuracy of the forecast were not high enough.
In 20 12, the National Meteorological Center launched a new forecast product, namely, the fine forecast of big cities. This product refines the weather forecast of provincial capital cities and cities with separate plans within 24 hours, and forecasts every 6 hours, and the precipitation can be predicted to millimeters. But even this is not detailed enough to meet the needs of various industries and the public.
Therefore, the concept of grid forecasting is introduced into the fine forecasting business in China. How to understand it? It can be said that, just like the latitude and longitude network on the earth, we can decompose the area where China and every city are located into many grids of 5km, 5km or even 1km, 1km.
The public lives in such a grid, and the weather conditions in each grid will be different. Compared with the original fixed-point forecast, it is more detailed in space and more targeted.
Take Beijing's forecast as an example. The original forecast only used the temperature and precipitation of the southern suburbs observatory to represent the weather situation of the whole city. However, through the grid forecast, the weather in Beijing is no longer a reflection of a fixed point, and the meteorological service and weather forecast for Beijing can be finely reflected in every different grid of the whole city.
