Western Europe also has a maritime climate. Why is the Paris Basin more suitable for growing wheat?

Temperate maritime climate, high latitude, rainy weather and light and heat conditions are generally not suitable for the development of planting. However, the climate in Paris basin is warm, the heat condition is good, and the land is fertile, so wheat can be planted, mainly because of the topography.

The Paris Basin is low and flat, with an average elevation of178m, and the elevation of the central area is only 26m. The edge is surrounded by hills and plateaus about 300 meters above sea level, with the central plateau in the south, the Lorraine Plateau in the east, the Ardennes Plateau in the north and Amauri Mountain in the west. Especially in the western and southern plateau mountainous areas, the westerly airflow rises. Because of the low ground potential in the basin, the air sinking into the basin after lifting will reduce precipitation, improve lighting conditions and increase the heat in the basin, which is suitable for grain production.

The wheat-growing area in the southeast of pennines, England, is another example of a sunny day on the leeward slope of the west wind.
