"Every day is a beautiful day" by the feast master.
You have seen the saying "Every day is a beautiful day". "Every day is a good day", every day is a good day. This sentence can also be said as follows: everyone is a good person, everything is a good thing, and there are good places everywhere. There are no bad guys, no bad weather, no bad things, and pure land everywhere. Then you can add "good heart" and "good thinking." "Every day is a good day" is a sentence said by the founder of Yunmen, but few people later understood what it meant. I used this sentence in the preface of Zen Buddy. I said: If "every day is a beautiful day", then I won't forget some crazy words I said during the seventh meditation. If I don't reach the point where "every day is a good day", then I must forget what I said in Zen Seven, or I will be in trouble. What did I say in Zen Seven? This is crazy. What is madness? It should be words that look and sound illogical, unreasonable, or even inconsistent with Buddhism.
The day before yesterday, a Japanese professor came to our cultural center and saw a report on his experience in Zen, entitled "Master is a liar". If this is a gross violation of Buddhism, how can you say that Master is a liar? Who did master cheat? From the standpoint of Zen Buddhism, the bigger the liar, the better, then Sakyamuni Buddha is also a liar, and all the classics that Sakyamuni Buddha said are "nonsense". The Buddha said in the Diamond Sutra: "The Tathagata is a true speaker, a true speaker, a fluent speaker, a non-slanderer, and a non-native speaker. However, he added, "If people say something about the Tathagata, it is to slander the Buddha. It can be seen that Buddha is also a big liar.
Second, good cows and stupid cows.
In fact, this "cheat" means comforting, encouraging, guiding and inducing. When the child refuses to eat, the mother will say, "Good boy! Eat quickly. After dinner, I'll buy you some candy. " The child forgets after eating, he is full, what else! Therefore, mothers also lie to their children. Not only cheating, but also coaxing, scaring, cheating and cheating. The best thing to say is to coax. Is it true to coax? Of course not. In the Buddha's time, the Buddha saw a man cursing. He said that he could not curse, not only not cursing, but even cursing cows. The Buddha told the story of a cow as an example:
In the past, there were two cows pulling two cars. One cow walks fast and the other cow walks slowly. The fast person walks faster and faster, and the slow person walks slower and slower. What's the reason? The driver is different. The cow in front walked very fast, because the driver said to the cow, "My lovely cow, you are my baby, you are my cleverest and best cow." I am counting on you. You hurry to pull it for me until the end. I will give you good food, good grass and good food. When the cow couldn't pull, the driver said, "I don't believe you can't pull." You are more powerful than you are now. You are the best cow in the world, so I like you best and love you most. " So, the cow fought hard and continued to pull. That cow in the back is different! The driver always scolds the cow: "you stupid cow, lazy cow, bad cow, confused cow!" "Why do you always rest, pee, shit, really worthless! Look at the cow in front, how fast she runs! If you don't go back, I'll sell you; If you don't leave, I'll kill you when I come back! The cow thought, anyway, it's dead, anyway, it's broken, anyway, it's lazy and useless, so she squatted down and simply didn't go. Therefore, none of the 12 teachings of Sanzang is true. They are all lies and lies. So is there any deception or intimidation? The Tibetan scriptures say: "Don't do bad things; If you do something bad and your heart is broken, you will be an animal, go to hell and go hungry. "What is this? This is too scary. The founder of Zen Buddhism is good at cheating, and cheating is deliberate, so I won't tell you directly. For example, I had hoped that you would go east, but I know that you are disobedient and told you to go east. You must not go east. So I said to you, "don't go east, east is the worst." I don't want you to go to the East! Think about it: "Hum! If you don't want me to go east, I will go east! " Now that I've been fooled, I hope you go to the East. In this case, it is called the convenient method in the classics. Convenient method is not a practical method. Convenient method can be used in different ways according to different people. For example, I hope everyone will go east, tell him to go east for someone and tell him to go west for someone, but the goal is the same. For example, let one person go east from Taiwan Province Province, let another person go west from Taiwan Province Province, and finally these two people may meet in new york, USA. This is cheating and cheating.
Fish fly in the sky and sheep eat grass on the bottom of the sea?
For example, "fish fly in the sky and sheep eat grass at the bottom of the sea" is meaningless and impossible. Sometimes I say: the highest place is the bottom of the sea; The deepest place is on the mountain. Is this the opposite? As far as common sense is concerned, this is unreasonable. But being reasonable will make your mind think more. In order to tell you not to be reasonable, our ancestors went crazy and even talked about killing Buddha every time. Some grandfathers said that it takes three days to rinse your mouth when you say a word of Buddhism. What the hell does this mean? If you can reach the realm of "every day is a good day", you can realize the true meaning of these words.
"Every day is a good day" means that there is no difference in heart, without you and me, good or bad, size, length, male or female, etc. These are all relative. So is there unity and absoluteness? If you feel unified when you are unified, then unity itself is still separation. True indifference is that there is no contradiction and no unity. If we insist on unity, it means that there are contradictions besides unity. Self-thought: I stand on the side of no difference and no trouble, while others have differences and troubles; Others have no wisdom, but I have wisdom.
Generally speaking, both religion and philosophy are pursuing an ideal, a realm beyond reality and our ordinary world. Then there is the world of God and the world of man. There is a world of war and a world of peace. Everyone pursues a world of peace and opposes a world of war; They also pursue the sacred and spiritual world and hope to leave the world of ordinary people or people. This is a dichotomy between philosophy and religion, that is, we hope to achieve an ideal from surpassing the world and reality, or get rid of our real life. A situation like this will never be pursued, will never exist, will never be illusory, will never be false and will never be realized. It's like a dog with a pole tied to its back and a piece of meat hanging from it. The dog wants to eat this meat. The dog is running and knows there is a piece of meat in front, but it will never eat it. Why can't I eat? Because the bamboo pole is tied to the body, the dog runs and the bamboo pole is also led by the dog. Therefore, to pursue a unified, eternal, holy spirit, or an ideal, ideal realm will never be realized. Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is coming, but it will never come; If the kingdom of heaven is eternal, there is no difference between coming and not coming. Besides, we talk about undivided attention. When we achieve undivided attention, the real world is the ideal world. The ideal world is indistinguishable from our real world. Trouble itself is like wisdom. Our ordinary life is no different from the life of a saint. The difference depends on your peace of mind. If the mind is calm, stable and solid, then everything itself is good and there is nothing wrong with it. If your heart keeps moving, then all external phenomena are distorted.
Fourth, there is no wind and no waves at sea.
I often make such an analogy: if a mirror is shaken, the shadow can't be seen clearly; A basin of clear water, blow it with your mouth, and look at the shadow in the water. It must be distorted. Our hearts are always moving, probably like waves on the sea when the wind blows; If the mind is fixed, it is probably like a breeze. We in China often say that "there is no wind and three feet of waves on the sea". When the ship is walking on the sea, we think there is no wind, but there are still waves. Ordinary people want to kill people when they are in big trouble! Or something you want to pursue, such as a girl or a boy, or when there is a triangle or a four-corner relationship, you try your best to deal with others. The evil that happens in society is nothing more than money, men and women, and reputation. Once in the United States, I said to a middle-aged China apprentice, "You are dishonest! If you have a problem, why don't you explain it? You have to talk in circles. " He said, "You are so old that you should be reformed. He was very sad to hear these words. He is over fifty years old, and he can't stand hearing these words. After coming back, he couldn't sleep for several days, didn't come to see me for more than three months, and wrote several letters to scold me, each of which was a long speech of four or five thousand words. I don't care about these vicious letters, why bother! If, like him, he writes thousands of words, I will reply to him thousands of words, so that I will not be so troubled by him. Why bother? Later, this person became very kind. Thank you very much, Master. He said, "You are really a master! I can't do it. I can't stand a word you say, and you can stand it if I say so much about you. I told him, "You get excited too easily when things happen. It is not easy for you to be so healthy. I can't sleep well when I sleep. You think too much, worry too much, worry too much, get tired too much, and play too much, which will only increase your distress. The first thing to learn Zen is to be healthy, the second is to have a good sleep at night, and the third is to be carefree and not bother yourself. This is the most basic attitude of us Zen learners! As for what is profound enlightenment, let's leave it at that. Since then, this man has been very diligent and hardworking. What does this passage mean? In other words, our hearts are easily influenced by the environment, and we often have a hard time with ourselves and find ourselves in trouble.
Fifth, the straight heart is the Dojo.
We should take "nothing" as the center, do everything regardless of gains and losses, regardless of gains and losses, so that our hearts are normal. Normal mind is kindness, kindness is indifference, indifference is straightforwardness. There is a saying in Buddhism: "Honesty is the Dojo". Most people don't understand honesty, thinking that honesty is honesty. In fact, the so-called heart is straight, that is, the heart is not distorted, there is no ripple, and the mind is straight. What is the Dojo? It's the place where the road corresponds. China people sometimes interpret Tao as a road. Everyone likes a smooth road, but if the road is full of pits, they may not like it. A straight heart is like a straight and flat road.
If it is a twisted heart, it is not a very bad heart; A confused heart, an upside-down heart, is worse than a twisted heart. Therefore, a man of practice should first start from the disorder and inversion of his mind, cultivate a mind that is not chaotic, inverted and orderly, and then change from an orderly heart to a straight heart. The true straight heart is a very flat heart, not just a straight line; Honesty is not only universal, but also eternal, so it is also called indifference. What kind of situation doesn't matter? It is not easy for the heart to stay still at all. Judging from the practice process of the Bodhisattva, at the eighth (immobile) place, it was really completely immobile. Ordinary people's hearts will move in time and space; Here, at this time, it does not move, but in another environment, it may move. Therefore, it is impossible for ordinary people to be completely motionless. Even those of us who practice can't easily make every day a good day. If the heart never moves at any time and anywhere, at this level, it can be said that it has reached the stage of unintentional and unwise. Zen scholars from distraction to innocence, from innocence to wholehearted, from wholehearted to unintentional. This is three stages. Prove to Siraitia grosvenorii that it is unintentional; Not only is there no separation, but there is no unity. If the heart is unified and unconscious, there will be no "unified heart" and "separated heart", which is unintentional. If there is a unified heart, it is still the realm of ordinary people, not as good as the Hinayana of Buddhism.
6. Without wisdom, there is no gain.
The Heart Sutra says "no wisdom, no gain". Some people say that if you don't want wisdom, you don't need enlightenment; Without enlightenment, there is no wisdom; Since there is no wisdom to gain, what am I doing here? So this kind of person is very contradictory. Some people like to read the Heart Sutra very much and read it well. But if you tell him that there is no such thing as wisdom, and that there is no wisdom to get, he will be frightened! There is an old Buddhist who studied Buddhism for many years, but he had seven periods of Zen. Listen to me. There is no Amitabha Buddha, no Sakyamuni Buddha, and no enlightenment. After that, the old man said to me, "Master, I'm leaving. I can't stay. After decades, I finally believe in Buddhism. Now there is no Buddha, nothing, and I can't go on! I still hope to have a Buddha. As a result, he really left halfway. Has this layman read the Heart Sutra? He reads it every day! Read the Heart Sutra in class in the morning and evening. Did he see the phrase "no wisdom, no gain"? Yes, but this is unacceptable.
Wisdom or Hinayana, without wisdom is Buddha. Wisdom is not a good day, but no wisdom is a good day. Why not a wise day? Because the aroma of Siraitia grosvenorii proved that he had nirvana, and he felt that there were ordinary saints, life and death, and nirvana; He is tired of leaving life and death and is willing to live in nirvana forever. He will never come to this world and suffer from the six divisions in the wheel of life and death and karma. It can be seen that Lohan is not exactly the same, but he is still different. The relative is gone, and the unified is gone. This time is wisdom; Without opposition and unity, it can be said that it is unwise.
I said in Zen Bardury that everyone is dreaming, the dreamer is dreaming and the awakened one is dreaming. So, does Buddha dream? Buddha is dreaming, too. This dream is for us to see. Isn't "no wisdom" a fool? That's not true. There are several levels of emptiness: the first level is emptiness, separation and relativity, the second level is emptiness and combination, and the third level is emptiness. The first layer is the unity of external Tao, the second layer is empty, and the third layer is empty or not. It's a good day to be empty. When every day is a good day, can a person still see bad people?
The Six Ancestors Tanjing says, "Worry is Bodhi, and life and death are Nirvana", or conversely, "Nirvana is life and death, and Bodhi is worry". For a person who is fully aware of life and death, there is no difference between life and death and nirvana. Because all beings have life and death, so he has life and death, not because he has life and death; He was born because of all beings and died because of all beings. He is just a reflection of all beings. He no longer exists, because there are all beings, he exists. There is no so-called Buddha, but there is a Buddha because of all beings; There is no bodhisattva, but there is a bodhisattva because of all beings. Buddha and Bodhisattva are the highest, the most complete and the most complete. Now they don't have the problem of life and death nirvana, but for all beings, buddhas and bodhisattvas still go back and forth between life and death. Does the Bodhisattva exist by itself? They don't feel their existence. If I still feel that I exist, it is me-I exist in nirvana and I exist in wisdom; I can enter nirvana, and I have great wisdom. Since there is no self-phase, no self-phase, no sentient beings, all these phases are gone, and of course he himself has no. Therefore, there is no Buddha and no bodhisattva. But for all beings, there are buddhas and bodhisattvas.
Every day is a good day, everyone is a good person, and everything is a good thing-for the Zen Buddhists who realize this, there are neither bad people nor bad things. Because no one can hurt him and nothing can bother him, he has no values such as good or bad. They are not as good as ordinary people who make value judgments with individuals as the center, nor as good as pagans who make value judgments with the whole universe as the center. It is precisely because they forget all the separation that every day is a good day for them.
