Xin' an Mountain is the main terrain of the county seat, which is distributed in the vast areas such as Erling in the north of Jian River and the north bank of Fan River. Here, the mountains are continuous, the ravines are vertical and horizontal, the terrain is undulating, and the cutting is serious, mostly covered with loess. Generally, the altitude is 300 ~ 400 meters. It covers an area of 833.6 square kilometers, accounting for 7 1.8% of the total area of the county.

From north to south, there are major rivers such as Yellow River, Qinghe River, Fanhe River, Jinshui River and Jianhe River in Xin 'an, and there are valleys and rivers along the coast. Here, with flat terrain and criss-crossing canals, it is the main crop producing area. Except for the wide plain along the Jianhe River, the other valleys are narrow, generally 200 ~ 300m above sea level, with an area of 104. 1 km2, accounting for 9% of the county's total area. After Xiaolangdi Reservoir was impounded, most of the Yellow River and Fenhe Plain were submerged.

Xin 'an county belongs to the continental monsoon climate in the north warm temperate zone. It can be summarized in four sentences: "There are fewer rainy days and droughts in spring, and more hot days and droughts in summer. Autumn is cool and cold, and winter is cold and rainy. " China's climate is characterized by abundant light and heat resources, great potential, uneven distribution of precipitation in time and space, and frequent disastrous weather dominated by drought.

Xin 'an is one of the main birthplaces of Heluo culture, and the history with physical evidence can be traced back to the Neolithic Age. Counties in the Qin Dynasty have a history of more than 2,200 years. As early as hundreds of thousands of years ago, the ancestors of the Chinese nation flourished here, creating splendid ancient civilization and Chinese culture. According to legend, Huangdi and Yandi once lived here, so people also call Xin 'an "the mountains and rivers outside", "the hometown of emperors", "the ancestor of China" and "the root of Yandi". There are many Yangshao cultural sites in the territory, including famous national key cultural relics protection units, the largest epitaph museum in China-Qiantang Zhizhai, and cultural landscapes such as Han and Han Valley Pass, Wang bridge opening and Dong Zhenguan. The poem Xin 'an Official in Du Fu's Three Officials and Three Farewells was written in Xin 'an. Perhaps the poet would not have thought that his bitter stroke had become the foil and contrast of today's prosperity.
