Baishan City is a prefecture-level city in Jilin Province. It is located on the west side of Changbai Mountain in Jilin, adjacent to Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in the east; bordering Xitonghua; adjacent to Jilin in the north; and across the Yalu River from Huishan City in South Korea. .

Baishan City is one of the major timber producing areas in China. 60% of Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve is in Baishan City. The primeval forest provides conditions for wild animals to thrive and is the hometown of the Northeast’s “Three Treasures”—ginseng, mink, and deer antlers.

There are scenic spots in Baishan Reservoir Area of ??Songhua River and Yunfeng Reservoir Area of ??Yalu River. In July 1994, the Ministry of Forestry approved Baishan City to establish a national forest tourism area.

Baishan is a city with a continental monsoon climate in the north temperate zone and is the coldest area in Jilin Province. The temperature difference between day and night is large in spring; the summer is short, warm and rainy; the weather is cool and sunny in autumn; and the winter is long, dry and cold. The urban annual average temperature is 4.6°C, the highest temperature in summer is 36.5°C, the lowest temperature in winter is -42.2°C, the average annual precipitation is 883.4 mm, the sunshine hours are 2259 hours, and the frost-free period is 140 days.

The Bai Lava Platform and Jingyu Lava Platform cover most of the territory, while Longgang Mountain and Laoling Mountain run diagonally through the entire territory. Longgang Mountain is 800-1200m above sea level, with a relative height between 500-700m; Laoling Mountain is a high mountain with an altitude of 1000-1300 meters, with a relative height of 500-800 meters.
