Foreword of weather dynamics

Since 1950s, the principles of synoptic meteorology and dynamic meteorology have been interrelated and increasingly closely combined. Especially in the past 20 years, with the development of detection technology and the continuous update of computer technology, the connotation of meteorology has been expanding. It has gradually become a new trend in the development of weather dynamics to study the physical mechanism of the formation and evolution of weather systems by dynamic methods. This book introduces the new progress of meteorological theory and method research at home and abroad in recent years.

This book is divided into seven chapters, including:

From chapter 1 edited by Bu Yukang to chapter 6 10, the background characteristics and relations of atmospheric circulation in weather scale system are mainly discussed. The physical mechanism of the formation and evolution of mid-latitude weather scale system and its diagnostic methods; Isentropic analysis and isentropic potential vorticity, etc.

Chapter 6, section 1 1 and chapter 7, written by Cao Jie, focus on the research progress of tropical weather dynamics in recent years.

In the process of writing this book, I got strong support from the teachers of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences of Yunnan University, and discussed the corresponding parts of this book with Professor Zeng Jianhua, Professor Cao Jie and Associate Professor Ke Fan successively.

This book was supported by the National Natural Science Research Foundation (ProjectNo.: 40475040). With the help of Stanley Tam and Yang Ruwen, Meteorological Publishing House gave great support to the publication of this book. Here, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to them.

Due to the author's limited knowledge level, mistakes in the book are inevitable, and readers are kindly requested to make valuable suggestions.
