Why is Yong Zhengdi called the most diligent and pragmatic emperor in history by later generations?
To tell the truth, the previous generations of the Qing Dynasty were really capable. Bitang, Yuan, Song, Ming and Han were much better. There are so many capable emperors in the Qing Dynasty, and the most capable emperor has to say "Yong Zhengdi", our hero. So what are his diligence and pragmatism embodied in? In order to find out this matter, I summarized several examples of him working for the Qing Dynasty for reference only.
Yongzheng handled the affairs of the DPRK in every possible way, and he had to examine it carefully in person, day and night. Yongzheng usually deals with state affairs from morning till night, with little rest in the middle.
At the end of the day, he discussed with ministers the political priorities and how to implement them during the day. In the evening, he reviewed his papers diligently. Yongzheng's diligence and pragmatism can be illustrated by an example: "Before Yongzheng, he was diagnosed by a doctor because of the heat, saying that Yongzheng had better take a lunch break at noon and not be too tired." From then on, Yongzheng was afraid of heatstroke. In the summer of the sixth year of Yongzheng, the weather was extremely hot. Yongzheng just wanted to lie down and sleep, but suddenly he thought of an urgent letter from the minister that he didn't read. He thought of his duty and finally restrained himself from doing government affairs. "
Until the late years of Yongzheng, Yongzheng should not be a little tired of political affairs. He is often busy late at night because of government affairs, and his health is getting worse and worse. Even Yongzheng's final death may be due to overwork in state affairs, which led to his hollow body and unfortunate death.
Yongzheng is not only strict with himself, but also requires the following officials to be diligent and pragmatic. Don't always do things unrelated to politics. He asked ministers to be careful and not careless and make some low-level mistakes. For example, the new government official Ejishan, Zeng Yuan stepped on the post and left early, and the university student Marcus punished it as appropriate and handed it over to does. After Yongzheng knew this, he thought that this treatment was not clear enough, which aroused the slack of the newcomers. At this rate, I wonder what will happen in the future.
So Yongzheng punished them for being on duty in Yuanmingyuan every day, going to Yuanmingyuan before dawn in the morning and going home at night. I think the two of them must live in the city and can't go home in order not to be late for work. Getting up so early is enough for them to drink a pot.
Moreover, Yongzheng also asked officials not to stay in the local provincial capital for official reasons. They went AWOL in order to obey the superior officials. He also does not allow officials to spend money at will and do other recreational activities unrelated to political affairs, resulting in many government affairs being abandoned.
Yongzheng not only set an example in government affairs, but also made a good start in governing government affairs. He asked officials to follow him. For example, in May of the first year of Yongzheng, the "Longevity Festival" held on the birthday of his father Emperor Kangxi should have built Dojo in Daxing around the country and recited scriptures to celebrate his birthday.
Yongzheng is not allowed to do this. He thinks that spending money indiscriminately will bring trouble to all places, and it is too wasteful to spend useful money on useless things. But Yongzheng supported spending the money saved on officials who were poor because of distant homes. He believes that money should be like this. Only when it is spent on practical purposes can the Qing Empire maintain long-term stability.
