Romantic stories and essays of childhood.
Denggan River is a river full of magical colors. Winding, the river is clear. In spring and summer, the beautiful Denggan River is a world of flowers and a paradise for birds. In winter, it is the hometown of snow. Snow-covered and foggy everywhere show the unique charm of the north.
According to historical records, Denggan River was named after it, but it was still sealed by the emperor.
Although the Denggan River has a long history and its riverbed is not wide, some sections are so deep that no one is there. Legs and feet are handy in the narrowest place. As long as you go all out, you can jump in one step. In order to cross the river conveniently, people on both sides of the river usually build a movable wooden bridge with a wooden pole. People who cross the river can easily step on the other side with one foot on the wooden pole, then reach out and grab the shrub or wicker on the other side, and then take one step at a time.
In earlier years, this river had no name. Later, an emperor of the Qing Dynasty passed the river while hunting. The emperor's entourage learned what the people looked like and found a wooden pole to put on the river, so the emperor crossed the river with the help of his entourage. The river is not wide, so it should be easy to cross it with wooden poles. Besides, there are so many followers around the emperor.
But it is said that something happened that day. The emperor just stepped on the wooden pole with one foot and was about to lift the other foot when the wooden pole suddenly rolled up. In desperation, the followers failed to hold on and the emperor fell into the river. Fortunately, the river here is not deep, and the emperor's two feet step on the hard bottom of the river.
The emperor was in a good mood that day. He looked at the bank covered with willows and shrubs, and then looked down at the hard bottom of the river and the clear water under his feet. Instead of blaming his followers, he said, "Oh, this river is still made of copper and iron." Later, at the behest of the emperor, ministers named the river "Denggan River" according to the story of the emperor crossing the river with wooden poles, which has been in use ever since.
My home is still some way from Baishishan, but the Denggan River flows by our village. When I was a child, I went to school every day. Now villagers have to cross this river when they enter the city. On weekdays, the river is clear and slow, and small fish can be seen swimming under the water.
We often go fishing in shallow waters after school and holidays, or catch small fish and shrimp with hedges and play on both sides of the river. On rainy days, when the rainstorm in the upper reaches gathers into a stream, the river will skyrocket, and sometimes even overflow the riverbed, blocking our way home from school and unable to return to our home on the other side of the river.
Endless Baishishan, beautiful Denggan River and fertile black land have nurtured generations of hardworking and kind people in their hometown. My childhood, which happened at the foot of Baishi Mountain and by the Denggan River, was not beautiful, but unforgettable.
First of all, about the wind
The wind has always been frightening in my childhood memory, except for the pleasant breeze in spring and the cool breeze in summer. The wind in memory is mixed with disaster.
Spring is the biggest season and the strongest intensity of stroke in a year. Because everything depends on it to recover, and the climate also depends on it to warm up.
Therefore, every spring, people enjoy the gradual warming of the days, but also endure the destruction of the wind, especially in the past. Whenever there is a strong wind, the grass on the roof will blow here and there, and sometimes even the whole roof will be torn off. At this time, every household will be busy on the roof, fighting against strong winds and protecting the nest.
The hardest thing at this time is my father. Climb to the roof on the rickety wooden ladder, then hold the roof with one hand and hold the bricks, tiles or mud blocks handed down from below with the other hand, and spread out and compact the grassland samples. Every time I see my father fighting the strong wind on the roof, it scares my nerves, and whenever the strong wind blows, I worry that this scene will reappear, and often nightmares come true. Not only that, we dare not cook in the strong wind, for fear that a single spark will cause great disaster.
I remember one year when it was windy, my family and Wu Shu's two younger brothers really set fire to the grass on the eaves because they were burning edamame behind the house, which almost scared the souls of both families. Thanks to the timely discovery, it didn't cause a big disaster. As a result, the two children were severely taught a lesson.
Now sometimes I still have a lingering fear when I think of the original scene. I can't imagine where we will live and how to survive once the house is really burned down, because there was really no condition and ability to rebuild the house at that time.
Every windy night in this country is more disturbing. At that time, the windows were all made of paper, and when the wind blew, it would make a loud noise, which was very thrilling in the dead of night.
And every winter, when it is dark and windy at night, weasels or mice will visit my henhouse, no matter how tightly you block it, they can get in. Chickens will even be bitten by frightened areas, and they will scream when the whole family is asleep, so that we can't come out with our heads covered. Only my father got up quickly, put on his clothes, grabbed things and ran out, driving away threats and strangers.
Often, my father didn't catch his breath when he entered the house and lay down, and he didn't shout outside the henhouse, so he had to put on his clothes and run out to be beaten. Sometimes he has to toss and turn several times a night, which makes the whole family sleep badly. Many times, there are too many dead chickens, which makes the already few poultry less and less, which makes people feel extremely distressed and reluctant.
When I go to school in winter, the northwest wind blows on my face and forehead, which is more than five miles. There are blisters on the forehead and face, and the hands and feet are frostbitten, which will recur every winter. That feeling is even more unforgettable.
Second, about flowers.
When I was a child, the brightest memories belonged to flowers. At that time, my mother always planted colorful flowers in front of and behind the house and on both sides of the path in the yard to decorate our humble home and our poor life. They are all familiar flowers.
There are dahlia, broom, bobo dumplings, bougainvillea, cockscomb, Achnatherum splendens, Chuanhong and so on. I like to call them grass names and common names, because they are kind and grounded, so I don't want to compare them to find their elegant scientific names.
Although these flowers are colorful and lifelike, they are not the most impressive memories because they are too ordinary and domesticated. What I like best are the flowers that bloom first in early spring and the wild lilies everywhere in early summer.
The hair and bones are full of flowers, and the scientific name is Pulsatilla. But I prefer to call it hairy bone flower, which is more like the name of a flower. All people who grew up in or outside the mountains should have this kind of flower in their memory. Although simple and unobtrusive, it is covered with a purple flower coat and a pale yellow stamen. When it is opened to the outermost layer, it becomes the most inconspicuous dark gray, but it has won our preference.
I think it never leaves a deep impression on people because of its beauty, but because of its youth. Flowers with hairy bones are the first messengers to report to the mountains in spring and the first soldiers to bloom in the cold. Hairy bone flower has a tenacious character, which is not only cold-resistant, but also drought-resistant and barren.
Their roots endured the snow and cold wind and sprouted tenaciously, just to win the opportunity to own a flower. Then, with a tenacious attitude, it shows the recovery of life; With its beautiful appearance, it shows the miracle that life can continue in the long destruction.
It tells us that after death in winter, life will be reborn in bright spring. Hair bones and flowers, sign the Covenant between life and spring.
Then Malanhua followed. It has three dark blue petals, mixed with yellow stamens, and blooms freely everywhere. Malanhua has a strong vitality. Whether in the valley or in the roadside courtyard, as long as its roots are not pulled out, it will bloom every year, bringing people the enjoyment of beauty and the hope of life. Children will sing it when they jump on the rubber band, which shows how much people love it.
Then yellow and white dandelions spread all over the earth, and then spring really came to the world. Next, all kinds of household flowers and wild flowers began to appear one after another, competing for each other. Peaches and plums are everywhere, and plum blossoms and wild ginger flowers are fragrant everywhere. And there are many flowers that can bloom for a season until the tea leaves, and then the snowflakes flying all over the sky will have another annual ring in life.
The wild lilies all over the mountains in summer are another most beautiful bloom in my memory. Every season, I will frequently run to the mountains, with joy and expectation, to go on a date with wild lily.
Wild lily, we often say that the umbrella falls, the petals are lux, the stamens are yellow, and there are black spots on the petals. If the flowers with hairy bones are the pioneers of spring, then the wild lilies are the messengers of summer, because they are the first fiery flowers in summer, and bunches of them are dotted on the green hillside, which is particularly eye-catching and very attractive.
In fact, the nearest to my home is only a hill covered with a small grave. Although I am timid, I can't resist the temptation of the beauty of wild lily. I often go hiking in the mountains with my children and sisters or have a tryst with wild lilies. Then I will carefully choose one to take home and put it in a bottle to enrich it in my next days and dreams.
At this time, you will see many male and female bicycles on the streets and mountain roads, holding bundles of fragrant wild lilies in their hands. When they are out of date, waves of fragrance will penetrate into your heart and stay in your memory for a long time, becoming the most beautiful scenery and fragrance in your memory.
Third, about snow.
The encounter with snow in memory is always beautiful and stinging, and the memory is unforgettable. I also liked snowy days when I was a child. I like to have snowball fights and make snowmen with my sisters, brothers and friends, and I also like to put my sleigh on the skating car. I like walking on the way to and from school, but I step on a series of crooked footprints in the snow on the roadside, stepping on rows of wheat ears, and then go back and savor them. I like walking on the snow in the cold winter, and the creaking sound under my feet is clear and far away.
My favorite games after the snow are playing sledge and skating, because it's a girl's house and I can't play anything else, which is dignified enough. And some elegant ones, such as figure skating, can't play. I'm too timid to push my skates.
There is a big water bubble in front of my house, which catches fish and shrimp for us in summer and plays for us in winter. As soon as the rural autumn grain is finished, it begins to be changed into two meals, and school ends at two o'clock. Every winter, when I have nothing to do after dinner at three or four o'clock, I will take a simple ice cart and paddle in a big bubble as cold as a mirror for a while, holding an ice shovel in both hands, which is very comfortable. Play until your eyes turn black and then go back to your room to sleep.
There is a not too steep slope in the canal in front of our house, which is where my brother and sister put the sledge. Every day, as long as I have nothing to do, I will go to play with the sledge in a hurry. We will first drag the wooden sledge that is not too heavy to the top of the slope, then find a good slope and swish it down at once. We will enjoy playing for most of the day repeatedly. Maybe it's really because I didn't play many games at that time. I can only spend extra time and energy like this except when I have books to read.
The snowstorm in my childhood also left me unforgettable pain. The deepest is twice. Once I stayed at my eldest brother's house during the winter vacation, but I went home in the snowstorm driven by my second sister. I walked more than 4 hours * * * more than 30 miles. As a result, because of the short trouser legs, my ankle was frozen with a big circle of blisters, and I didn't go to the ground for several days, leaving unforgettable memories.
Another time is to go to the next village to see a movie at night. I just felt a little cold at first, but the weather was good when the moon was bright and the wind was clear. It's just that the sky suddenly changed in the middle of the movie, and the strong wind suddenly blew on the screen. Then the northwest wind rolled snowflakes and began to fly all over the sky, and the audience rushed home at once.
My home is more than three miles away from the village where the film is shown. When my sisters and brothers ran home, I was already swollen by the snowstorm, and I couldn't open my eyes. The next morning, my big eyes were swollen to a crack, and it took several days to fade away, leaving a serious sequela. After that, it will recur every winter as long as it is blown by the cold wind, which lasts for many years. It's unforgettable. Everyone else is fine.
Fourth, about the month.
The moon is beautiful, so childhood memories of the moon and moonlit night also shielded the poverty and suffering at that time, which was so beautiful and intoxicating.
The deepest memory of my childhood moonlit night is the frog drums that come and go in summer nights. After dinner, as long as the bright moon climbs into the sky, I will often stand in the yard or walk on the ridge in front of the door, watching frogs jump around and listening to frogs chorus. At that time, unlike the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides now, frogs were almost extinct.
Frogs can be seen almost everywhere in summer when I was a child. When I walk on the road, I will see them jumping over the road, even jumping into the yard and climbing into the house. Every night when people are quiet, you listen to those frogs, and they will soon sing together until late at night. Many times, we will gradually fall asleep with the sound of frog drum, and occasionally we will be disturbed by frog drum and sleep badly. But the frog doesn't care whether you sleep or not, or whether you are in a good mood. They just act on instinct.
And every midnight, the crow of chickens will wake you up from your sleep and start a brand-new day early. At that time, almost every household would keep one or two roosters to raise chickens and crow during the Spring Festival. Anyway, it would never be killed without meat.
Some cocks are very quiet and don't talk until after midnight. And some cocks can ignore those, and when they are happy every moonlit night, they will crow regardless of time. And other cocks will respond loudly. At this time, there are often crows in the village, which will spread far away. Moreover, geese and ducks will not be lonely, although some disturb people's dreams, but also add a lot to life.
So did dogs at that time. As long as one dog barks at night because of the footsteps of passers-by or other sounds, other dogs will bark at once, much like the herd mentality of modern people. I really miss the crowing of chickens, the barking of frogs and dogs, and the barking of geese and ducks, which makes me alive. It is often so quiet and lifeless, which makes people feel dull and suffocating.
On a moonlit night, there is nothing that rural children like better than hide and seek. Several children got together and began to play games. There are so many places to hide in the woodpile, in the barn, in front of the door and behind the house that you can't find them for a long time. Some children even fell asleep in the hiding place, and adults had to shout for a long time before turning around.
When I was older, I sometimes let my thoughts fly under the moon and daydreamed at the moon. I don't know what Chang 'e, WU GANG and Moon Rabbit are doing in the Moon Palace at the moment, and when people can go to heaven to have a look. I want to grow up in a few years and what to do when I grow up. I don't know when my brothers and sisters will come back from vacation, and then tell the story that I didn't finish last time. I wonder when my parents can make a new suit for themselves and eat something delicious at home.
Sometimes I will stand in the moonlight, sing a few songs that I only know, and recall the big events and small feelings that happened in the day. At this time, there will be one firefly after another dancing in front of our eyes, adding some bright colors to the bleak life of childhood.
Although at that time, there was no such excellent material life and spiritual enjoyment as today's children, none of our children now have it. Today's children will start kindergarten, take long classes before going to school, and spin like a top.
And when they are at home, they will watch cartoons on the computer or TV from morning till night, becoming anime control. As a result, many parents or grandparents are complaining that as long as their children are at home, others will not have the right to computer TV. Some children have nothing to do and watch cartoons instead, but some children specialize in watching an cartoon from morning till night, which is so single and boring.
Nowadays, with the popularity of smart phones, many children are addicted to games too early, their eyes are tired, and other aspects are also affected. Think about it, when we were young, we were still fine, free and carefree, and the games we played were all green, which was beneficial to the healthy growth of body and mind. It's really profitable
As the years go on, the memories of my childhood will gradually leave me. If you don't record a few words at this time, I am afraid that one day they will be completely submerged by the ripples of time and will never be salvaged. ...
