Dulan county, with an average elevation of 3 100 meters, is located in the southeast corner of Qaidam Basin, dulan county, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, with a total area of 4.527 square kilometers. It belongs to the plateau arid continental climate, with an average annual precipitation of179.1mm. It is one of the three modern sandstorm distribution areas in Qaidam Basin, and its ecological environment is characterized by particularity, fragility and importance.

Dulan county is adjacent to Chaka Town, Wulan County in the east, Golmud City, an important industrial town in Haixi Prefecture in the west, Guoluo maduo county and Qumalai County in Yushu Prefecture in the south, and Delingha City, the capital of Haixi Prefecture in the north. The county is about 3 10/0km long from east to west and180km wide from north to south, with an administrative area of 45,270 square kilometers. Chahanwusu Town, the county seat, is located 427 kilometers east of Xining, the provincial capital, and 340 kilometers west of Golmud.
