Is the pitch of guzheng affected by the weather?

The pitch of guzheng is influenced by the weather.

The reason why it is influenced by the weather is because the guzheng is a wooden instrument. In different weather, the density of wood will be different because of the different humidity, and the different density will lead to the slight change of pitch. In particular, the panel of guzheng is made of soft paulownia, and the influence of weather on it is directly reflected through the strings.

Therefore, the intonation of guzheng is influenced by weather conditions such as temperature, humidity and vibration. Once the piano sound is found to be inaccurate, it should be tuned in time, otherwise it will affect the performance effect.

The origin of guzheng:

As early as the Warring States Period, the Zheng was popular in the territory of Qin State (Shaanxi Province), and it was called "Qin Zheng" at that time. Since then, it has spread to Henan, Shandong, Guangdong, Zhejiang and Inner Mongolia. Due to historical changes and regional influences, styles and playing techniques vary from place to place, thus forming various guzheng schools today, which makes the development of guzheng increasingly prosperous.

Before the Han and Jin Dynasties, the Zheng had twelve strings. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the zither was increased from twelve strings to thirteen strings.
