Latest news on February snowfall and highway closures in Beijing

I believe everyone knows that it snows in Beijing, which makes many friends very happy. Additionally, the snow was falling heavily, so many highways were closed. So let’s learn about this snow today!

Snowing in Beijing

Starting from yesterday morning, affected by the easterly wind at the bottom, snow began to fall in the east, south and urban areas of Beijing. According to live monitoring, snowfall was observed at the Nanjiao Observatory at 7:40 this morning. As of 11 noon, 0.1 mm of snow had fallen at the Southern Suburb Observatory, 0.2 mm in Tongzhou, 0.1 mm in Chaoyang, 0.4 mm at the Urban Ancient Observatory, and 0.4 mm at the Temple of Heaven. Overall, the snowfall was more obvious in the east. Moreover, this snowfall is already the sixth snowfall in Beijing this winter.

According to the forecast, it is expected that there will be another significant snowfall in Beijing during the day today. It is expected that the amount of snow in the northern mountainous areas will be heavy and may reach moderate snow levels. The plain areas are dominated by light snow, and obvious flying snowflakes can be seen in most urban areas.

According to Hu Xiao, chief meteorological expert of China Weather Network, this snowfall in Beijing mainly presents two characteristics: First, because the height of the entire wet layer during this process is relatively low, the snowflakes will not be particularly large; second, After a snowfall, low visibility conditions may occur as the sky will not clear immediately. In addition, the Beijing Meteorological Observatory has issued a yellow warning signal for road icing. Affected by this snowfall, it is expected that roads will be prone to ice formation from the afternoon of the 5th to the day of the 6th. Please take precautions.

I hope everyone will always be safe and happy!
