1. Cirrus clouds - sunny days

Among these ten types of clouds, cirrus clouds are the farthest from the ground, with a height of more than 5 kilometers, and are high clouds. Clouds have a fibrous structure and are often white without shadows. Some are gray or dark gray. They can be divided into 4 types:

1. Cirrus cylindrical clouds

Shape like a funny cloud Dot symbol, in white. Its appearance heralds rain, so there is a saying: "There are clouds in the sky and rain on the ground." But in autumn and winter, the appearance of cirrus clouds indicates sunny or frosty weather, so there is a saying that "winter cirrus clouds cause dust to rise".

2. Cirrus clouds

Often white, shaped like feathers. Its appearance heralds a sunny day. "The flowers and clouds in the sky will kill people on the ground." "The flowers and clouds in the sky will kill people in the sun tomorrow." They are talking about cirrus clouds. But if it develops into cirrostratus clouds, it will rain.

3. Dense cirrus clouds

For denser cirrus clouds, thin sunlight can pass through the clouds, while thick ones can weaken the sunlight and even make the sun invisible at all. At this time, it appears grey. Its appearance indicates stable air, but when it develops into cirrostratus clouds, it will rain. Dense cirrus clouds occasionally drop scattered precipitation.

4. Pseudo-Cirrus

Pseudo-Cirrus is the anvil part of Cumulonimbus and is often seen when Cumulonimbus subsides. After the anvil part of cumulonimbus separates from the main body, only the anvil part remains, which is a pseudo cirrus cloud. They are mostly in the shape of strips, balls, anvils, feathers, etc., and are white or dark gray in color. Its appearance indicates that the air is turning from unstable to stable.

2. Cirrocumulus clouds - sunny days

The appearance of cirrocumulus clouds indicates good weather and will not produce precipitation. But if the clouds in the sky are mainly cirrocumulus clouds, which are related to cirrocumulus clouds and cirrostratus clouds, they often indicate rain. Cirrocumulus clouds are white and gray-black at night. The clouds are very thin and can transmit sunlight and moonlight. They are like fish scales.

3. Cirrostratus clouds - sunny or cloudy

Cirrostratus clouds are composed of ice crystals, and halos are often visible in the clouds, located at the top of the thunderstorm layer. Sometimes, they are also associated with tropical cyclones, in which the winds blow outward, blowing cirrostratus clouds far away from where they formed. The appearance of cirrostratus clouds will cause halo, which means it will rain. Farmers' proverbs include: "The sun haloes rain at midnight, the moon haloes the wind at noon", "The moon halo brings wind, and the base moistens the rain." "The sun and moon have wind circles, but there is no rain." These three sentences are "Feng Dian".

4. Altocumulus - cloudy, overcast

Altocumulus belongs to the medium cloud family. The thin clouds are white and sunlight can penetrate through the clouds. The thick clouds are dark gray and cannot penetrate the sun and moonlight. The dense cloud strips are oblate, tile-shaped, fish-scale, and water-wave-shaped, including 6 types: translucent Altocumulus, emissive Altocumulus, lenticular Altocumulus, fortress-shaped Altocumulus, cumulus-like Altocumulus, and flocculent Altocumulus. The appearance of altocumulus clouds often heralds a sunny day, and there are sayings such as "tile clouds, the sun will kill people" and "carp spots in the sky, there is no need to turn over the grain in the sun".

5. Altostratus clouds - overcast or light rain

Altostratus clouds belong to the medium cloud family, and the outlines of the sun and moon are blurred when viewed from a distance, as if separated by a layer of frosted glass.

Off-white or gray, altostratus clouds are caused by thickening of cirrostratus clouds and thinning of nimbostratus clouds. Its appearance means it is going to rain. After the altostratus clouds pass, nimbostratus clouds will come and it will rain. Altostratus clouds are divided into two types: translucent altostratus clouds and emissive altostatus clouds.

6. Cumulus clouds - clear, slightly cloudy or cloudy

Cumulus clouds belong to the straight-spreading cloud family, and the cloud base height is between 2000 and 5000 meters in the sky. The top of the cloud is an arc-shaped bulge, and the bottom of the cloud is flat. Cumulus clouds are a harbinger of sunny weather, because they resemble steamed buns, so they are commonly known as "steamed bun clouds". There is a farmer's proverb that says "steamed bun clouds mean sunny weather". Cumulus congestus can develop into cumulonimbus clouds, producing thundershowers.

7. Cumulonimbus - overcast, thunderstorm (hail)

Cumulonimbus belongs to the Zhizhan cloud family, and its appearance is a sign of thunderstorms, and even hail, tornado. It is divided into Cumulonimbus baldus and Cumulonimbus mane. Cumulonimbus baldus is the transitional stage from Cumulonimbus congestus to Cumulonimbus mane. It exists for a short time. Cumulonimbus mane is the strong stage of cumulonimbus.

8. Stratocumulus - cloudy, overcast, light rain and snow

Stratocumulus belongs to the low cloud family, with a cloud base height below 2,500 meters. Translucent stratocumulus clouds are thin and grey-white in color. They do not produce precipitation and appear cloudy. Light stratocumulus clouds are dark gray and can produce light rain and snow.

9. Nimbostratus - continuous rain and snow

Nimbostratus clouds belong to the low cloud family, with the cloud base height below 2,500 meters. It will produce precipitation for a long time. There are two sentences in the farmer's proverb: "The sky is covered with gray clouds, and it will rain continuously." "The sky is covered with gray clouds, and it will rain continuously." The color is dark gray, low and amorphous.

10. Stratus clouds - drizzle

Stratus clouds belong to the low cloud family, with the cloud base height below 2500 meters, often covering the mountainside. Stratus clouds can be divided into two categories: stratus clouds and fragmented stratus clouds. There will be occasional drizzle and snow from stratus clouds, but it will not rain heavily. The appearance of stratus clouds indicates sunny weather.
