The name of typhoon is provided by the member countries of Typhoon Committee and named by WMO.

Initially, the joint typhoon warning center established by the US military in Guam (now moved to Hawaii) was responsible for naming typhoons. The earliest typhoon names were all female names, and it was not until 1979 that male names were added. However, since 2000, the naming right of typhoons has been entrusted to the Typhoon Committee of the International Meteorological Organization.
