In meteorological services, what is commonly used to express the magnitude of wind speed?
Wind feather (barb), wind speed flag symbol. A short straight line used to represent wind speed on a weather map. In the northern hemisphere, the ball is clockwise (that is, left) at the end of the closing rod far from the station circle, and counterclockwise (that is, right) in the southern hemisphere. According to the current reclamation regulations in China, the included angle between the wind feather and the missing pole is 120. The long stroke (0.4cm long) of each wind feather represents 4m/s, and the short stroke (0.2cm long) represents 2m/s. In countries (regions) with kn as the wind speed unit, the long stroke and short stroke of the wind feather represent 10kn and 5kn respectively. It must be noted that this is not the conversion relationship between mis and kn. To put it simply, a short feather is 1 wind, and a long feather is 2 winds, so how many long feathers and short feathers are accumulated is wind power.
When the wind speed is equal to or greater than 20m/s (or 50kn), the wind triangle (pennant) shall be used instead or additionally.
