In meteorological services, what is commonly used to express the magnitude of wind speed?

Wind feather (barb), wind speed flag symbol. A short straight line used to represent wind speed on a weather map. When the wind speed is equal to or greater than 20m/s (or 50kn), the wind triangle (pennant) shall be used instead or additionally.
