Where does the Zhanghe River flow?

Zhanghe River flows through Yuan 'an and Jingmen, joins Zhang Ju at the two estuaries of dangyang city, and then flows into the Yangtze River in Shashi through Zhijiang and Jingzhou, with a total length of 202 kilometers. The upstream is composed of two rivers, one is Qingzhang River, and the other is Weihe River, both of which originate from the hinterland of Taihang Mountain in the southeast of Shanxi Province. The downstream is used as the boundary river, which divides the boundary between Hebei Province and Henan Province in sections, and joins the Weihe River in Guantao County, Handan City, Hebei Province, known as River and Wei Canal, and enters the South Canal of Haihe River system.

The role of Zhanghe River

Because the main stream of Zhanghe River flows eastward along the border between Hebei and Henan provinces, Zhanghe River has replaced the Yellow River as the boundary river between Hebei and Henan provinces in modern geography. Zhanghe water conservancy has a long history. As early as the Warring States Period, Ximen Bao ruled Ye, and built 12 canals (Ximen Diversion Canal) in Linzhang County, Hebei Province to lead to Zhanghe River. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), large-scale water conservancy projects such as Zhangze Reservoir, Yuecheng Reservoir, Hongqi Canal and Zhang Nan Canal were built. It has played a role in agricultural production and flood control in the basin.

Valley migration

Zhanghe River was originally the largest tributary of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River. Zhang Heng and precipitation referred to by Gong Yu are Zhanghe River. Later, the Yellow River moved south, and Zhanghe left the Yellow River and merged into the Haihe River system, becoming a major tributary of the Haihe River. Historically, its changes are more complicated, including Anyang River in the south, Fuyang River and its predecessor Hengshui, Luchang or Hulu River in the north, and its peak is in the west of Ye Zhen (ancient Yedu), namely Santaikou.
