How much is a balloon worth?

High-altitude balloons are extremely precious.

High-altitude balloon, also known as high-altitude scientific balloon, refers to an unpowered aerostat flying in the stratosphere, especially a narrow zero-pressure high-altitude balloon. For more than half a century, this kind of transportation has either been sought after or ignored. Nowadays, the new economic, energy and environmental background provides new opportunities for high-altitude balloons. The progress of materials and measurement and control technology has injected vitality into high-altitude balloons. It plays an increasingly important role in basic disciplines, aerospace, environment and other fields. Its flying height is generally located in the stratosphere, and it is a vehicle for scientific observation or experiment at high altitude, which has been gradually developed in the past 30 years.

Although its flying height is not as high as that of a satellite, it is much higher than that of an airplane, generally reaching 40~50km. Because of its low cost, convenient flight organization and short test period, high-altitude balloons are increasingly favored by scientists, and are widely used in high-energy astrophysics, cosmic rays, infrared astronomy, atmospheric physics, atmospheric chemistry, ground remote sensing, high-altitude physics, physiology and microgravity experiments. It is also widely used in the pre-research and flight test of space equipment in outer space and military.
