How to take pictures of flowers?

Tulip is beautiful in flower shape and rich in color, which is very suitable for expressing its unique charm by photography. So, how can we shoot tulips well?

The natural flowering period of tulips is from March to May. At this time, many cities in China will hold tulip flower exhibitions. You can choose the park where the flower show is held, the flower garden or flower market where tulips are planted, or you can buy tulips and shoot them at home. Tulips usually bloom after sunrise in the morning and close at night. Therefore, shooting tulips in full bloom should be done on a sunny morning. If you shoot in rainy days or in the afternoon, you can only shoot closed flowers or buds. Side light (including front light or backlight) can be used as light, which is characterized by good lighting modeling effect on flowers, strong three-dimensional sense, clear hierarchy, moderate shadow and contrast, and harmonious contrast between color brightness and saturation. It is the most ideal and commonly used light for shooting tulips. Backlight can draw a clear flower outline, and the modeling effect of light is good, showing the texture, hierarchy and texture of petals delicately. However, it should be noted that the front of the flower should be filled with light and set off with a darker background, so as to show the image of the flower more prominently. The scattered light in rainy days is also an ideal light source, which is flexible to use, not limited by the directionality of the light source, with uniform light receiving surface, soft color tone and moderate contrast. If you choose to shoot with scattered light after rain, the flowers will look fresh and attractive. However, the works shot with the forward light (front light) lack three-dimensional sense and layering, and the color tone is dull, so they should be used as little as possible.

When shooting tulips in a large area, we should pay attention to the contrast of lines, the harmony of light and shade, the harmony of colors, neither too messy nor too monotonous, but also show its rhythmic beauty. When shooting a few flowers, we should pay attention to the position of the flowers, the strewn at random, the collocation with leaves, the change of reality and so on. When shooting close-ups, we should choose flowers with bright colors that can best express the characteristics and unique beauty of tulips, and pay attention to the coordination between flowers and leaves and the expression of petal texture. In addition to taking pictures of blooming flowers, you can also take pictures of budding buds, closed flowers and even dying flowers, as long as they look good. If bees, butterflies and other insects can be photographed in the picture, it will increase the interest of the work. You can also spray a small amount of water on the flowers before shooting, which can not only wash away the dust and dirt on the flowers and leaves, but also make the flowers more moist and fresh, but there should not be too many water drops, otherwise it will be fake. In short, we should mobilize all means to make the picture of the work beautiful, harmonious in color and infectious.

Other tulips or natural objects such as sky, ground, grassland, lake, forest, etc. Often used in the background, shooting with a telephoto lens or a large aperture, controlling the depth of field, blurring the background and highlighting the theme. In the tulip flower show, flowers are sometimes planted around big trees. You can choose flowers close to big trees and shoot with bark as the background. The delicate flowers and vigorous bark set each other off and have a good effect. You can also use an artificial background, but be careful that the background color is not too bright and close to the color of the photographed flowers, so as not to affect the performance of the theme. In addition, the use of tripod and cable release can increase the stability of the camera, make the work have high definition, and avoid shooting in windy weather to prevent the flowers from shaking and affect the clarity of the work.
